Live: Rothesay County Championship – Yorkshire Men v Nottinghamshire, Day 4

Yorkshire have five wickets with which to play with on day four against Nottinghamshire as they look to deny league leaders Nottinghamshire a Rothesay County Championship win at Headingley. Follow our blog for live updates throughout the day.

Nottinghamshire win by 163 runs

Jack White caught behind Kyle Verreynne bowled Mohammad Abbas, 11.

Yorkshire bowled out for 299, ending 19.1 over partnership between White and Jordan Thompson, the longest of the innings.

Yorkshire’s fourth defeat yields 3 points, Notts’ fourth win 19.

Notts return to Pennington

With Jordan Thompson and Jack White having resisted for an hour, Notts have returned to their spearhead quick Dillon Pennington in an attempt to finish things off. Yorkshire 298-9.

Thompson and White holding on

Yorkshire are holding on by their fingertips here. Jordan Thompson and Jack White have played out nearly 12 overs. They’ve taken the score to 295-9. The rain continues to fall, but not enough to interrupt play.

Rain falls but play continues

It’s raining pretty steadily at the moment here at Headingley, where play continues. Yorkshire 290-9.

Jordan Thompson, who has 15, is taking as much strike as he can, with Jack White on 8.

Yorkshire 277-9, 101.2 overs

Ben Coad caught behind Kyle Verreynne bowled Dillon Pennington, 5.

Fourteenth caught behind in the game. Pennington has a five-for.

Yorkshire on the verge of defeat.

Yorkshire 269-8, 98 overs

Dom Bess caught Kyle Verreynne bowled Dillon Pennington, 21.

Nottinghamshire are two wickets away. Ben Coad in to join Jordan Thompson, who has 11.

Matthew Revis

Matthew Revis bats against Nottinghamshire today, posting a season’s best 45.

Yorkshire are 261-7 now, with Dom Bess 14 and Jordan Thompson 10. We’re currently playing through a short and sharp rain shower.

Yorkshire 244-7, 89.1 overs

Matthew Revis caught behind Kyle Verreynne bowled Dillon Pennington, 45.

Notts are chipping away. After a big wicket before close, of Harry Duke, last night, Pennington gets key man Revis at the start of the afternoon.

Lunch: Yorkshire 239-6, 88 overs

Productive morning for Yorkshire, who lose only George Hill in their bid to save this game.

Matthew Revis reaches the break on 44 and Dom Bess 4.

Yorkshire need 224 more to win.

New ball taken

Nottinghamshire have taken the new ball through Mohammad Abbas, with Yorkshire 231-6 in the 81st.

Freddie McCann returned the dream spell as far as the visitors are concerned – 1-1-0-1.

Yorkshire 230-6, 78.1 overs

George Hill bowled Freddie McCann, 26.

McCann’s part-time spin is introduced and he drops one short which Hill looks to pull. Unfortunately, he loses his middle-stump.

Dom Bess in now alongside Matthew Revis, who has 39.

Livin' on a prayer

Yorkshire are halfway there.

Well, just about anyway.

They are 229-5 from 77 overs, with a minimum of 76 more to face. They also require another 234 to win.

Matthew Revis has 39 and George Hill 26. The partnership is 54.

Yorkshire 205-5, needing 258 more

Matthew Revis has 29 and George Hill 11.

Revis has just picked up a boundary to fine-leg as he attempted to evade a Dillon Pennington bouncer and it deflected off the back of his bat. Periscope job! Yorkshire are going to need the odd slice of luck if they are to see the day through.

Liam Patterson-White’s spin into the attack now.

Revis takes a blow on the right thumb

Matthew Revis requires a bit of treatment having been struck on the right thumb by a Brett Hutton delivery. We’re back up and running now, though, with the score at 190-5. He has 19 of them.

First base reached

George Hill 4 and Matthew Revis 17 have seen off the opening half an hour of the day with an encouraging deal of comfort.

They have taken the score to 186-5, with 277 more needed to win.

Mohammad Abbas and Brett Hutton are in operation for Nottinghamshire.

Up and running

George Hill has just seen off the unfinished 57th over from last night, bowled by Dillon Pennington.

Yorkshire are 176-5, with Matthew Revis 11 and Hill yet to get off the mark.

The White Rose are chasing 463, and need 287 more to win.

Start on time in the offing

It’s looking very likely that we will start on time at 11am.

The sun’s out, the pitch is uncovered and the players’ warm-ups are in full swing.

The sun's out again

The rain has passed through, and the covers are being removed.

Preparations are also being made for the players to start their warm-ups.

It's raining

Rain is sweeping across the ground at Headingley at present.

Good morning...

Good morning from Headingley, where the sun’s out. But there has also been some rain about on the drive in.

There is some more of that forecast as well throughout the day. So, if Yorkshire are to get away with a draw in this Rothesay County Championship match, it may well be that they don’t have to bat the full day out to achieve it.

They will start the day on 176-5, needing 287 more to win. That task looks highly unlikely. Survival is surely the order of the day.

Yorkshire will have to take inspiration from Essex’s final day performance against them at Chelmsford a couple of weeks ago when they batted out the final day when starting it with six wickets remaining.

Matthew Revis will resume this morning unbeaten on 11 and will be joined at the crease by either George Hill or Dom Bess following the late loss of Harry Duke last night, who was caught behind off a snorter of a delivery from Dillon Pennington which reared up at him and followed him. He could do little with it.

This would be the perfect time for Bess to produce a captain’s innings, for sure.
