Sophia aiming to be So-fire!

Seam bowler Sophia Turner has joined the Diamonds on a pay-to-play contract for 2024, swapping one side of the Pennines for the other.

Turner, who turns 21 during the opening week of the summer, has opted for a move to Headingley in search of greater opportunity having come through the ranks with Lancashire and Thunder.

She is a skilful quick from Blackburn who impressed the Diamonds hierarchy during a brief loan spell at the end of 2023, claiming two wickets.

She was with Thunder from the start of the regional era in 2020, making 11 competitive appearances. One of those saw her claim a fabulous 1-4 from four overs in a Charlotte Edwards Cup T20 win over Diamonds at Headingley in 2021.

The following summer, Turner was part of the Lancashire team which won the County T20 Cup.

Diamonds coach Dani Hazell described her as a “brilliant addition” to a squad which will be hoping to secure a second title in three seasons after Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy success in 2022.

Turner is a product of Read CC, the same club where former England World Cup winner Alex Hartley has played.
