Ducky’s come over from the dark side

Batter Rebecca Duckworth has made the long and arduous journey across the Pennines, joining the Northern Diamonds from arch-rivals Thunder! The Prestonian has signed on at Headingley for 2023 following a successful winter trial.

She made 13 senior appearances for Thunder in all cricket across the first three years of regional cricket and now swells a talented Diamonds’ batting group led by the likes of captain Hollie Armitage, Sterre Kalis and Lauren Winfield-Hill.

Duckworth, aged 22, only played one competitive fixture for Thunder last season, batting at three in a 50-over clash with South East Stars and scoring 15 in a low-scoring defeat. In other friendly appearances, she posted encouraging scores of 42 not out, 37 and 41.

She debuted for the Lancashire Under 13s and progressed through their age-groups to make her senior debut for the Red Rose county in 2017.

Duckworth has also played senior cricket for Cumbria and the Northern Representative XI, hitting 51 in a T20 clash with North East Warriors for the latter last May.

Rebecca’s brother Ed is a football referee, who this season has taken charge of a number of National League matches involving the likes of Halifax Town, York City, Wrexham and Oldham Athletic.
