Ducky’s come over from the dark side

Batter Rebecca Duckworth made the long and arduous journey across the Pennines ahead of 2023, joining the Northern Diamonds from arch-rivals Thunder following a successful trial.

The Prestonian made 13 senior appearances for Thunder in all cricket across the first three years of regional cricket and deepened a talented Diamonds’ batting group led by the likes of captain Hollie Armitage, Sterre Kalis and Lauren Winfield-Hill.

Duckworth, aged 23, only played one competitive fixture for Thunder last in 2022, batting at three in a 50-over clash with South East Stars and scoring 15 in a low-scoring defeat. In other friendly appearances, she posted encouraging scores of 42 not out, 37 and 41.

Duckworth posted a top score of 27 in six Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy appearances in 2023 and will hope to build on that in 2024.

She debuted for the Lancashire Under 13s and progressed through their age-groups to make her senior debut for the Red Rose county in 2017.

Duckworth has also played senior cricket for Cumbria and the Northern Representative XI, hitting 51 in a T20 clash with North East Warriors for the latter in May 2022.

Rebecca’s brother Ed is a football referee, who has taken charge of a number of Football League matches in the ongoing season.
