It’s once again been a very busy period for our Wicketz programme across Bradford and Leeds!
As always, our weekly sessions have taken place across our three established hub locations; Trinity Academy Leeds, Grange Interlink and Karmand Community Centre.
Despite a few cancelled sessions due to the bank holidays, this month’s engagement has been great, with good numbers, plenty of new faces, and some great interaction at our events and workshops.

The weekly sessions have taken place across our three established hub locations; Trinity Academy Leeds, Grange Interlink and Karmand Community Centre.
Highlight of the Month
We hosted the first “EID Celebration Event” at the Karmand Community Centre, on Friday, 5 May, with many of our young participants lucky enough to be involved!
Despite being after EID itself, this event aimed to bring people together from different cultures, for an evening of fun, food and celebration. For this event, our Wicketz programme linked up with the Royal Navy, who delivered some fantastic and fun team building activities, alongside our cricket activation.

Additionally, we also linked up with our partners Mylahore, a British Asian kitchen, who very kindly provided some amazing food for all our participants and parents!
More than 50 participants came along in total, and it was great to see young people from across Bradford and Leeds interacting with each other, having great fun, and celebrating culture!
One of the Wicketz coaches present on the day, Sabeha Salam, said: “The event was a blast! The kids had an absolute joy celebrating and having fun with all cricket and other activities conducted by Royal Navy. Their laughter and excitement filled the air, creating a joyful atmosphere. It was amazing to see their playful camaraderie and endless energy throughout the day.”
Another highlight of the month came in the form of some workshop delivery! Rachael Dodgson from the Parliament Education Team came down to our hub sessions at Trinity Academy Leeds, and Park Avenue Bradford.
Rachael delivered on an introduction to Parliament and covered a range of topics such as contacting local MP’s, starting petitions, and the importance of voting, participants even got the chance to take part in a Parliament like debate! We had amazing engagement across these two sessions, and it was refreshing to see our young people learn new things about a topic they don’t often cover in School education.
