On Saturday the Academy visited Clifton Alliance in York.

The Academy won the toss and elected to bat. James Wharton was the first wicket to fall with the total on 11. Finlay Bean and Matthew Revis put on an excellent partnership of 106 for the second wicket from 108 balls before Revis was trapped lbw for 62 from 66 balls with 10 fours. Captain Tom Loten made his return from injury and joined Bean at the wicket before Bean was out for 42 from 70 balls with 3 fours with the total on 127.

Hill was the fourth batsman to fall at 156 for 28. This was followed by a couple of quick wickets before Loten and Dominic Leech put on a stand of 44 from 36 balls to push the total onto 237 for 7 with three balls remaining. The Academy innings finished on 239 for 7 from 50 overs with Loten 50 not out from 67 balls with 5 fours.

The wickets were shared between Thomas Brown 3 for 65 from 13 overs, Samuel Grant 2 for 49 and Matthew Montgomery 1 for 53 from 13 overs.

In their reply Clifton lost both openers to leave them on 33 for 2 in the 11th over. Matthew Montgomery and Andrew Simpson took the total to 62 before Montgomery was out. Two further wickets fell quickly to leave the home side struggling at 79 for 5 in the 26th over. Samuel Grant and captain John Gilham took the score to 132 before Gilman fell for 20. Liam Green joined Grant and the pair put on 34 before Grant fell for an excellent 61 from 66 balls with 4 fours and 5 sixes. Clifton finished on 190 for 7 from 50 overs with Green 24 not out.

The Academy wicket takers were Harrison Quarmby 3 for 35, Dominic Leech 2 for 24 and George Hill 2 for 28.

It was a welcome win for Yorkshire Academy who remain 6th in the Yorkshire League North table.

Yorkshire Academy are at home to Sheriff Hutton Bridge who are second in the table on Saturday and spectators please note the match will be played at Emerald Headingley to give the youngsters experience of playing at the Test venue.
