It’s never too early to start thinking about this year’s Roses T20 at Headingley!

Yorkshire secured back-to-back home wins over Lancashire last year with an epic seven-run victory, including starring performances from Joe Root, Shan Masood and Dom Bess.

Masood’s 61 off 41 balls and Root’s vital 43 off 33 s

howed that the big names are always crucial for these massive games.

The Roses T20 always has an electric atmosphere, and last year was no different in front of almost 14,000 fans at Headingley.

After a difficult start, Root guided back-to-back boundaries to third-man and long-leg off Saqib Mahmood’s pace in the fifth to settle things, and Yorkshire took 43 off the six-over powerplay.

They continued their steady progress until captain Masood pulled George Balderson’s seamers over midwicket for the night’s first six in the 10th over, at the end of which Yorkshire were 78-2.

Masood took on the aggressor’s role, and by the time he reached his fifty off 33 balls, Vikings were 117-2 in the 14th.

In the end, Yorkshire posted 173-8 and were quick to pounce on the Lancashire top-order, with Conor McKerr taking the wicket of Josh Bohannon at mid-on in the second over.

Bess showed what he was capable of during his impressive spell, while Jafer Chohan, Dan Moriarty and Jordan Thompson also took key wickets.

As Roses games often do, it went right down to the wire with Thompson needing to defend 20 from the final over.

He made it look easy though, ensuring another famous win as Yorkshire took back-to-back Roses victories at Headingley.

Expect more drama when the sides meet again this July, in what could be a crucial final home game of the Blast for Yorkshire.

There’s likely to be more than just bragging rights on the line so we’re expecting another huge crowd to back the White Rose.
