Martyn Moxon has hailed “outstanding” Tim Bresnan after the all-rounder brought down the curtain on a 19-year Yorkshire career earlier this week.
Bresnan has departed Emerald Headingley for pastures new, with the 35-year-old now on the lookout for a second county.
He made his Yorkshire debut in one-day cricket in 2001, and since making his first-class bow in a Championship game at Northampton in 2003 he has claimed 557 wickets and scored 6,714 runs in 199 matches, including 23 Test caps for England.
That is not including his limited overs achievements – another 119 international caps and a World T20 win in 2010, for example.
A two-time County Championship winner in 2014 and 2015, Bresnan also captained Yorkshire on 13 occasions in Championship and T20 cricket in 2017.
“He’s been a fantastic servant to the club, and to England, over that 19-year period,” said White Rose director of cricket Moxon.
“He’s played for Yorkshire with such pride, and that’s shone through every year. With that, he’s been a great ambassador for the club, and we wish him well for the future.”
Bresnan, out of contract at the end of the summer, had a meeting with Moxon and chief executive Mark Arthur on Monday.
Moxon said: “We had a scheduled meeting with Brez, just to go through the current situation – an update on where we are with the financial situation and with his future in mind. We also had meetings in May with the lads on the same thing.
“We have been in regular contact with all players out of contract, and Brez no different.
“At that meeting on Monday, he told us of his decision, and we respect that.”
Moxon went on: “To play 19 years for a club is an outstanding achievement, certainly in modern day cricket – it’s almost unheard of.
“Brez typified what it takes to be a professional sportsman.
“He’s passionate, proud to wear the shirt, a consistent performer day in and day out and has a willingness to help young players on and off the field. He’s been a very good professional and an outstanding performer for us.
“What he’s achieved in the game is up there with some of the best.
“He’s won a couple of Championships, a T20 World Cup and two Ashes wins. They are not to be sniffed at.”
