Picture by Allan McKenzie/SWPix.com. Jonny Bairstow has now scored three Championship fifties against Surrey this season.
Jonny Bairstow made it to a belligerent 72 off 90 balls and Matthew Revis to 34 not out as the pair briefly brightened up a heavily weather-affected day two against Surrey at Scarborough.
Only 24.1 overs were possible between 1pm and 2.35pm, with Yorkshire advancing from 282-4 to 376-5.
Bairstow advanced from 19 not out overnight to complete his sixth fifty of this summer’s Rothesay County Championship.
It was also his third against this opponent following two in the mid-May defeat down at the Kia Oval.
Bairstow and Revis completed a fifth-wicket partnership of 88 as Yorkshire clinched three batting bonus points and limited Surrey to one bowling point.
Given we have only had 110.1 overs of play during the first two days, the chances of either side winning this 10th round game have significantly receded.

It’s certainly difficult to see how champions and current Division One leaders Surrey can win from here.
Yorkshire, however, will believe they can score quick runs at the start of day three and then bowl Surrey out twice for win number three of 2025.
Play didn’t start today until after lunch following a wet outfield.
Despite a dry and bright morning, umpires Nigel Llong and Russell Warren had concerns with some problem areas, including both bowlers’ run-ups, following heavy rain late on day one and into the evening.
Yorkshire started well. Bairstow twice drove Dan Worrall through the covers for four as the score moved beyond 300.
Shortly after, he swept left-arm spinner Sai Kishore for six on the way to a 68-ball fifty.

By that stage, Yorkshire had moved to 334-4 in the 100th over.
Unfortunately, however, Bairstow fell to Kishore when he miscued an attempted loft down the ground to deep mid-on, leaving the score at 364-5 in the 106th over.
While Bairstow hit 12 fours and a six, Revis hit half a dozen boundaries. He drove handsomely against Matthew Fisher and cut and pulled with confidence against Jordan Clark.
The rain came down at 2.35pm, and the umpires called things off for the day at 4.40pm.
