Live: Glamorgan v Yorkshire, Rothesay CC, Day One
The start of the 2026 summer is upon us, and Yorkshire are kicking things off today in Cardiff, where Glamorgan are the opponents for a Rothesay County Championship fixture. Follow this page for updates through the day.
Jack White reacts to day one at Cardiff
Close. Glamorgan 99-4, 36 overs
The hosts were 28-4 but have recovered thanks to Colin Ingram and Ben Kellaway, who close on 41 not out 35 not out respectively.
Three wickets for Jack White and the other for Ben Coad. Yorkshire caught superbly.
Jonny has gone off
Concern for Jonny Bairstow, who has had to leave the field nursing his right thumb. Colin Ingram under-edged a pull at Logan van Beek, which seemed to hit a diving Bairstow on the half volley. He’s been replaced behind the stumps by Fin Bean.
Not an injury sub, for now.
Glamorgan 83-4 in the 31st over of 36 overs. Ingram 31, Ben Kellaway 29.
Glamorgan steadying
They have moved on to 60-4 after 21 of the 36 overs to be bowled this evening.
Logan van Beek, George Hill and Matthew Revis have all rotated since the new-ball pair of Coad and White did their early good work.
The sun’s out now.
Glamorgan 28-4, 14 overs
Kiran Carlson caught Dom Bess bowled Jack White, 2.
Another fine catch as Glamorgan’s captain tries to whip one over a short fine-leg/leg slip but can’t. Bess takes a sharp one above his head.
Glamorgan 21-3, 11.2 overs
Sean Dickson caught Jonny Bairstow bowled Jack White, 0.
And another long list contender for catch of the season.
Bairstow diving away to his right, one-handed low down in front of first slip.
White has two-for.
Glamorgan 20-2, 9.5 overs
Asa Tribe caught Jonny Bairstow bowled Jack White, 11.
All of a sudden, a reasonably sedate start to the season has become a superb one.
Tribe feels for one just outside off-stump and can only feather through to the keeper.
Glamorgan 20-1, 8.4 overs
Eddie Byrom caught Fin Bean bowled Ben Coad, 5.
What a catch this is, low down to his left, one-handed, at third slip.
An early contender for catch of the season.
Glamorgan 13-0, 6th over
Asa Tribe 8 and Eddie Byrom 4.
Byrom strikes the first blow
The first ball of the summer, from Ben Coad, has been clipped through mid-wicket by left-hander Eddie Byrom. Asa Tribe is his opening partner.
Now, it will be Jack White. Glamorgan 4-0 after one.
First injury sub has happened at Essex
Essex captain Tom Westley has been subbed out of their game against Hampshire having suffered a finger injury. Noah Thain replaces him but can’t bowl.
They are 118-3 at tea.
Yorkshire win it and bowl
Jonny Bairstow wins his first toss of the season.
We will have 36 overs of play today.
Yorkshire: Lyth, Bean, Whiteman, Wharton, Bairstow c/w, Revis, Hill, Bess, van Beek, Coad, White.
4.15pm start planned here
The toss will take place any moment now.
Players now warming up
The Sophia Gardens outfield is a hive of activity, which is great news.
Further inspection at 3.30pm
The ground-staff are in the early stages of removing the covers.
Logan makes most of rainy day
“I couldn’t have gotten better in terms of meeting the guys, seeing the set-up, having a few trainings,” said Yorkshire’s new overseas signing.
“And, even today, it’s been good fun in the changing room, getting to know the guys and just asking questions about their careers and where they want to go and all those kind of rainy day questions.
“There’s been a few football games and quizzes and riddles, and everything that you can get up to in a rain break.
“But, so far, loved it.”

Inspection ongoing
The inspection is taking place at present, but there is a little bit of mizzle in the air.
Further inspection at 2.45pm
You know the cricket season’s back!
We will have a further inspection at 2.45pm.
It's raining again...

No play before lunch
Lunch will be taken early at 12.30pm, and there will be an inspection just before at 12.15pm.
Starts elsewhere
It looks like there is a start planned at all the other grounds aside from here and at Southampton, where Essex are visiting Hampshire.
In Division One, Somerset face Nottinghamshire at Taunton, Warwickshire are hosting Surrey at Edgbaston and Sussex are at Leicestershire (Grace Road).
Welcome, Sam!

Delayed start at Sophia Gardens
The message has just popped up on the scoreboards here.
The good news is, however, that it has stopped raining.
Good luck, Jonny!
Before we go any further, now is as good a time as any to wish captain Jonny Bairstow all the best for the new season. He will lead the silverware pursuit in both the Rothesay County Championship and Vitality Blast this summer.
Happy new season, folks!
Good morning, first of all. Welcome back to our live coverage of Yorkshire’s first-team matches throughout the 2026 season.
There is some early bad news, though. It’s raining in Cardiff and the covers are on, right across the square, with a significant amount of water on top. We can almost certainly say there will be a delayed start at 11am.
When we do get going….
Yorkshire open the summer at Sophia Gardens against newly-promoted Glamorgan, who are back in Division One for the first time since 2005 having come up last year behind second-tier champions Leicestershire.
They have a coach who is familiar to Yorkshire supporters in Richard Dawson and new captain in top-order batter Kiran Carlson. He has replaced Sam Northeast, who returned to Kent over the winter.
Anthony McGrath has named a 14-man squad for this clash, with Logan van Beek and Sam Whiteman in line for debuts. Jhye Richardson is a little bit behind them in terms of preparation. Fingers crossed, he’s ready to debut at Headingley against Hampshire this time next week.
That squad is as follows: Bairstow c/w, Bean, Bess, Cliff, Coad, Hill, Luxton, Lyth, Moriarty, Revis, van Beek, Wharton, White, Whiteman.
Over the last couple of days, we have published a couple of articles on site in preview to this fixture.
One is the Match Previewwith Matthew Revis.
The other is a bygones piece with Gavin Hamilton from 1998 when he starred for Yorkshire against Glamorgan at Cardiff.
As ever, there will be a live stream once play gets underway here in South Wales. That is available at the top of the page.
