The Northern Diamonds suffered a seven-wicket defeat after being bowled out for 96 to all but end their chances of reaching Finals Day on Saturday.

There is a scenario which could require a University degree in mathematics to work out who qualifies for Finals Day in the Charlotte Edwards Cup. But for the Northern Diamonds, their task is clear. If they beat the Thunder at Blackpool on Wednesday (11.30am), they are through.

The Northern Diamonds were beaten by the Southern Vipers in a nail-biting 16-run clash which saw both sides battle hard to recover from the loss of early wickets.

The Northern Diamonds took a stranglehold on a place at the Charlotte Edwards Cup Finals Day next month with a fourth successive win, this time over Sunrisers by 35 runs. Leah Dobson’s 47 set things up in 172-7 before Katie Levick’s brilliant 5-19 finished things off.
