11.03am Play underway in three matches now, including Lancashire v Notts at Old Trafford, which was washed out yesterday. Notts elected to bowl, Lancs are 4-0.
At the Ageas Bowl, Worcestershire are 40-2 replying to Hampshire’s 290.
In Division Two, Middlesex are 136-4 against Northants at Lord’s.
10.20am Martyn Moxon spoke to the media yesterday as we awaited a start, with one topic of conversation being Yorkshire’s ongoing injury and unavailability problem in the seam bowling department.
No doubt frustrated, but determined to see the positive side of things as Josh Shaw and Matthew Waite get their opportunity to shine.
“The lads have been preparing all winter and working towards this,” he said. “We say all winter ‘Be ready to play. You never know’.
“The lads coming in are ready, and we are looking forward to seeing how they go because we have one eye on the future.”
With regards to Josh Shaw, who has been out on loan at Gloucestershire for portions of the last two summers, he went on: “I think that helps.
“When you’re playing first-team cricket…playing at a higher level is what you need to develop. You can play second-team cricket for too long at times, and you need to be challenged.
“Josh has worked hard this winter with Rich Pyrah, tightening up his action and trying to get a bit more consistency. The signs this winter have been good, and hopefully he can take that step up and have an impact in first-team cricket.”
When things do improve with more bowlers available, Moxon added: “I’m always open to getting the lads out on loan because that’s better than playing second-team cricket.”
9.40am Good morning from Emerald Headingley.
We will not be starting on time due to the condition of the outfield towards the Rugby ground, and an inspection will take place after lunch at 1.40pm.
Conditions underfoot have improved since yesterday, but the main area of concern seems to be around wide mid-off to the right-hander.
