Yorkshire’s D40 Pursuit side – the county’s second Disability team – have set up a North Group title decider with Derbyshire later this month after beating Cheshire yesterday.

After five of six group games, the White Rose county have won three of them and are sat second on 130 points, 20 behind leaders Derbyshire and 30 still to play for.

The two sides will meet in Derbyshire on Sunday July 27. The hosts have won five from five so far.

There are three groups at Pursuit level, and each of the winners – plus the best second-placed finisher – qualifies for an early August semi-final.

Should Yorkshire beat Derbyshire and qualify, they would face the winners of the South East group, either Middlesex or Surrey, at Collingham CC in Newark on August 3.

Yesterday, at Higham, hosts Yorkshire were indebted to a superb 5-21 from six overs for Lewis Daniels as Cheshire were limited to 171-8.

Daniels struck three times in an over and claimed his first five-for for the county.

In a successful reply, openers Jamie Dillon and Curtis Sugden shared 122 to all but secure the 30 points.

Dillon top-scored with 73 off 54 balls – his best score in a Yorkshire shirt – and Sugden supported him with 47 off 33. Earlier, Sugden had also taken a wicket alongside William Baxter and Oliver Wills.

Unbeaten pair Jack Thornton and captain Archie Atkins-Sloan finished things off with 28 and 17 respectively. Thornton was on debut.

Meanwhile, Yorkshire’s S9 softball team were also Sunday winners, but they are out of title contention.

Their third win from five games was achieved by nine wickets against Lancashire at Scotton, near Knaresborough.

The Red Rose finished with 86-2 from 30 overs, with Oliver Fawcett claiming both wickets.

Fawcett enjoyed an excellent day, also top-scoring with 28 before retiring not out. Opener and captain Alastair Domville did likewise with 27 to his name.
