The Yorkshire County Cricket Club (YCCC) is delighted to announce the signing of top order batter Erin Thomas on a two-year rookie professional contract to play for Yorkshire Women.

Thomas is currently preparing for England international duty at the Under 19s T20 World Cup in Malaysia in January.

The 18-year-old is a product of the Selby club, Drax Cricket Club, and has played six times for Yorkshire women’s senior team in county cricket over the last two seasons, captaining them once.

A powerful batter, Thomas has been a prolific run-scorer at Northern Diamonds’ Academy level in recent seasons and she is also a former student of the Yorkshire Cricket College.

Erin Thomas is currently preparing for England international duty at the Under 19s T20 World Cup in Malaysia in January.

She has come through the Yorkshire age-groups and, this summer, posted notable scores of 60, 46 and 44 opening the batting for the county’s senior team.

Thomas said: “I was just speechless when I was told Yorkshire wanted to sign me. It was amazing, and it’s always been a dream for me growing up playing the game.

“I’ve been with Yorkshire since I was 12-years-old in the County Age-Group pathway, and I always knew this was where I wanted to be playing my cricket.

“I’m really excited to get started with Yorkshire and also the England Under 19s ahead of the World Cup this winter.

“I see the first year in Tier 2 as the perfect opportunity to go and show my skills, work on myself for the next 18 months and, when we go into Tier 1, absolutely smash it.”

Richard Pyrah, Yorkshire Women’s Head Coach, said: “Erin’s a real talent, and we’re delighted to have signed her on a first professional contract.

“It’s clear to see that she strikes a clean ball.

“Erin’s another exciting player, and these young players are going to get opportunities to play next summer.

“The World Cup will be a great experience for Erin. To go away and play in a tournament such as that at a young age is only going to fast-track her development. Fingers crossed, it’s a special time for both Erin and for England.”
