Top-order batter Imam-Ul-Haq follows in the footsteps of his uncle, Inzamam, in wearing the famous white rose.
The Pakistani international, aged 29, has joined the county for the remainder of the 2025 season with 101 all-format international appearances under his belt. He will debut against Surrey at Scarborough tomorrow.
During the second half of the 2007 summer, the legendary Inzamam was part of a Yorkshire team including Anthony McGrath, the county’s current head coach who has worked so hard alongside general manager of cricket Gavin Hamilton to get Imam on a last-minute deal following complications with Ruturaj Gaikwad.
Imam is a classy left-hander who, back in March, won the President’s Cup four-day title with the Pakistan TV side.
He subsequently made two ODI appearances for his country in New Zealand.
Predominantly an opener, he can bat anywhere in the top four.
He has a first-class best of 202 not out to his name and has scored three hundreds in 24 Test Matches to date, since debuting against Ireland at Malahide in 2018.
Imam played for Pakistan at the 2019 One-Day World Cup in England, and ODI cricket has been where he’s enjoyed most of his success for his country.
It bodes well for Yorkshire’s Metro Bank One-Day Cup campaign that he has scored nine ODI centuries in 75 appearances, including a best of 151 against England at Bristol just before the aforementioned World Cup kicked off in 2019.
Imam is closing in on 13,000 all-format runs at senior level, a milestone he will hope to sail beyond during his half-a-season at Headingley.
He played briefly for Somerset at the end of the 2022 season, scoring 177 runs in three Rothesay County Championship matches with two fifties, including a best of 90.
He is the second Pakistan star to represent Yorkshire as an overseas player this summer following Abdullah Shafique.
