The 2019 Ashes test held at Headingley was a real nail-biter, with Ben Stokes hitting a huge 135* to help secure England the victory. Tailender Jack Leach joined Stokes at the crease and managed a remarkable 1* to help seal the unlikely victory.
Known as “the Miracle of Headingley”, the Ashes Test of 1981 marked a remarkable victory, marking only the second time in history that a team had won after following on. Ian Botham was at the heart of this victory, starring with the ball and the bat. In Australia’s first innings, Botham took figures of 6-95, however Australia declared on 401. England were forced to follow on, after having only reached 174 in their first innings, with Botham scoring 50 of those.
The Ashes were back alive in England’s second innings with Botham scoring an unbeaten 149 to help England finish on 356. Australia needed 130 runs to win the Test. Right-arm fast bowler Bob Willis took control with the ball and secured figures of 8-43, which are the best figures at Headingley in a Test match, and secured England the Ashes.
