Adam Lyth praised Tim Bresnan and Matthew Waite as they led Yorkshire’s fightback on day one against Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge.
Lyth is standing in as captain for injured duo Steve Patterson and David Willey, the latter who went down with a back injury on Tuesday.
After electing to bowl, Lyth saw Notts advance to 182-0 as Ben Slater (109) and Kraigg Brathwaite (71) impressed.
But Waite struck three times shortly before tea and Bresnan twice with the second new ball late in the day, matching Jack Brooks’ return, as Notts closed on 332-7.
