Report

Day 1 had finished with Durham on 294-7 and Day 2 was abandoned without a ball being bowled and for a while it looked as though Day 3 would head the same way – however the rain relented and, after hard work by the ground-staff the umpires, coaches and captains decided that play was possible.

A start time of 2.15pm was given and Durham declared with 55 overs remaining in the day.

Will Fraine and Tom Loten opened the innings but Loten was bowled for one with the score on three.

Jack Leaning came in at three and he and skipper, Fraine, added 43 in 61 balls before the latter was bowled, driving, for 35 from 42 balls including five fours. Matthew Waite survived only four balls before he was comprehensively bowled for nought to reduce Yorkshire to 47-3.

Only one more run was added to the total before Tim Bresnan was also bowled without scoring. This brought Jordan Thompson to the crease and he and Jack Leaning remained unbeaten at tea – Yorkshire 94-4; Leaning 27no from 72 balls and Thompson 30no from 29 having added 46 from 63 balls.

The ongoing partnership had reached 91 when Thompson was caught and bowled for 53 made from 44 balls including five fours and two sixes. Ben Birkhead made a cautious start facing 18 balls before getting off the mark but when he was the sixth out, also caught and bowled, he had made 37 from 59 balls with five fours and had added 68 with Leaning in 109 balls.

Shortly after this, with Leaning unbeaten on 82 from 154 balls Yorkshire declared on 213-6 and the match was drawn.

Friday’s Trophy game will take place at Brandon CC.
