Yorkshire 2nd XI vs Derbyshire 2nd XI

Scorecard

Our travels to South Yorkshire were much more productive than our trip last week to the East Midlands as we reversed the results by winning both games to increase our chances of qualification for “finals day”.

Derbyshire batted first having won the toss and lost Godleman in the 2nd over, caught behind off Ben Coad. Skipper Wood and Hosein then added 47 in only 29 balls before the former was well taken at deep mid wicket by George Hill from Josh Sullivans bowling for 26. Thomson joined Hosein and a further 53 was added in 37 balls before George Hill dismissed both with consecutive balls – Thomson made 28 and Hosein 43, 109-4 with 7.1 overs remaining; 46 were added leaving Derbyshire on 155-5.

The run chase “ticked along” but losing Duke, Birkhead and Balance left us needing 86 from the last 10 overs but George Hill 51 no from 35 balls and Jonny Tattersall 48 no from 33 guided us to victory from the first delivery of the final over.

Yorkshire 2nd XI vs Leicestershire 2nd XI

Scorecard

Tuesday saw us face Leicestershire who were asked to bat first. Duanne Olivier struck with his first ball to dismiss Swindells but Welch and Evans added 42 in 31 deliveries before the latter was bowled by Josh Poysden who struck again to have Welch caught by Dominic Leech for 46. Bates and Davis made useful contributions with 33 and 32 respectively as our visitors closed on 154-7; two wickets each for Poysden and Hill.

Matty Revis and Ben Birkhead added 36 for the first wicket before Revis was bowled for 24 from 15 balls. Gary Ballance joined Ben and they took the score to 102 in a further 36 balls before Ben was caught for 34 from22 balls. Gary made 44 from 30 with 3 fours and 2 sixes and 33 no from George Hill (21 balls) saw us through to victory by 6 wickets with 16 balls to spare.
A special mention must be given to everyone at Doncaster CC for their welcome and efforts.

Our final group game is at Weetwood on Thursday 17th against Lancashire.
