Ah, a bit unlucky there is Bess. Looked to be inside-edge involved.

Joe Root has moved to 89.

He has just slog-swept and cut James Coles for back-to-back boundaries.

Yorkshire 353-5, 104 overs

Edged drive to slip ends an 86-stand with Joe Root, who has 79.

It’s a compilation of all his best photographs from following England around the globe, with words to match.

The pair’s royalties are all going to the MND Association. The book is published by Pitch and is out now.

Root 50

Joe Root has reached a fifty off 59 balls with 7x4s.

Yorkshire 288-4 as we approach lunch.

It’s been the type of innings where you look up at the scoreboard and think, ‘I thought he was on 20-odd’.

It’s just looked so easy.

New ball taken

Sussex have taken the new ball, and the seam of Ollie Robinson and the spin of James Coles are sharing it.

Yorkshire 275-4 in the 82nd over.

Yorkshire 267-4, 79.4 overs

Jonny Bairstow bowled James Coles, 6.

Bairstow bowled through the gate and loses his middle stump.

Matthew Revis in now alongside Joe Root, 36.

Key wicket for Sussex just before the new ball is due.

Root starts well

Joe Root has cruised to 35 not out in Yorkshire’s 266-3 in the 79th over.

Jonny Bairstow has six, and the new ball is due imminently.

Yorkshire 244-3, 74.2 overs

Sam Whiteman caught behind John Simpson bowled Henry Crocombe, 101.

Feeling for it outside off-stump and edges behind.

Jonny Bairstow in now alongside Joe Root, who has 19.

HUNDRED!!!! WHITEMAN

What a way to get to your maiden Yorkshire hundred, with a straight six off James Coles, drilled down the ground.

188 balls, 11x4s and that six.

Superb innings. Yorkshire 229-2.

Closing in...

Sam Whiteman has 95 out of Yorkshire’s 222-2 from 71 overs.

Joe Root is with him on three.

Yorkshire 199-2, 64.4 overs

Fin Bean lbw Fynn Hudson-Prentice, 105.

Angled into the left-hander and struck in line. An excellent innings comes to an end.

Joe Root comes alongside Sam Whiteman, who has 77.

Up and running

Sam Whiteman and Fin Bean have scored a single off each of the first two balls of the day, from Fynn Hudson-Prentice, moving to 74 and 103 respectively.

Yorkshire’s score 194-1 in the 61st over.

But we have a delay, with Tom Price going down holding his right ankle at deep backward square-leg. He’s up now but has hobbled off the park.

Would be surprised if we don’t have an injury substitution coming in shortly.

Having looked at the replay, he just goes over on his ankle. He actually did well to stop the boundary having gone down like he did.

Sam Whiteman

Sam Whiteman played nicely for his 73 yesterday, but his innings was interrupted when he was hit a painful blow in the box by Henry Crocombe.

Last night, batting coach John Sadler said with a smile: “He certainly went down, didn’t he. But they breed them tough in Australia. Well, Australia and South Yorkshire, anyway.

“It’s always funny when it happens to somebody else, isn’t it?

Bessy was in there laughing this evening, which was great, because it was Bessy who got hit twice there against Hampshire.

I think his box, he signed it and gave it to the physio.

“I don’t know what condition Sam’s box is in yet. But, no, he took a bit of time out, the physio looked after him, and I think everything’s still in place!”

Good morning...

From Headingley, where it’s dry but overcast ahead of day three.

We’re all set for an 11am start, with Yorkshire on 192-1 in reply to Sussex’s first-innings 502 all out.

Fin Bean 102 not out and Sam Whiteman with 73 unbeaten shared an unbroken 175 for the second wicket.

It was a Yorkshire record partnership for that wicket in first-class matches against Sussex, beating the 171 shared between FS Jackson and David Denton at Sheffield (Bramall Lane) in 1904. Quite the pair to beat!

They will be looking to plough on this morning and go from there.

Clearly, with the likes of Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow to come, the White Rose could still put some pressure on Sussex at the back end of this game. Equally, early wickets this morning and Sussex will feel the same.

Realistically, the draw is still the white hot favourite given the placid nature of the pitch.
