Live: Yorkshire Men v Bears, Vitality Blast

The Bears from Warwickshire will this evening aim to stand between Yorkshire and a third successive Vitality Blast victory. Follow this blog for live updates from Headingley and the White Rose's bid to tame the Bears.

Yorkshire have lost this one

We needed 39 off the last over and finish on 173-5, losing by 32 runs.

That’s our fourth defeat in six in the North Group.

Yorkshire 165-4 after 18

Looking tough ask now. 41 more to win. James Wharton approaching 40 with George Hill for company.

Yorkshire 153-4, 16.2 overs

Will Sutherland caught Sam Hain bowled Dan Mousley, 20.

Well caught at long-off by Hain on the run and sliding.

Into the business end of this fixture

Yorkshire are 141-3 after 15 overs, needing 65 more to win. James Wharton has 27 and Will Sutherland 13. It’s anybody’s game.

Yorkshire 121-3, 12.5 overs

Dawid Malan caught Hassan Ali bowled Danny Briggs, 65.

Skied top-edged sweep to short fine-leg running back. Will Sutherland in alongside James Wharton, who has 22. We need 85 more.

Malan 50

Dawid Malan

Dawid Malan reaches his fourth successive fifty in the Blast, off 29 balls, and has taken Yorkshire to 100-2 at the start of the 12th over. Excellent. We need 106 more to win.

Yorkshire 81-2, 10 overs

Yorkshire need another 125 to win in 10 overs.

Dawid Malan 37, James Wharton 11.

Yorkshire 66-2, 7.2 overs

Adam Lyth bowled Moeen Ali, 13.

Bowled trying to attack. James Wharton is in alongside Dawid Malan, who has 33. The latter has just been dropped in the deep.

Yorkshire going nicely

The score is 53-1 early in the sixth over. Dawid Malan has just hit two sixes over mid-wicket into the crowd. One was caught by spectator. He has 28 in pursuit of 206.

Yorkshire 21-1, 1.4 overs

Will Luxton caught Moeen Ali bowled Hassan Ali, 19.

Skied to mid-off having hit three fours and a six to help get the innings going. 206-target. Adam Lyth in now.

Up and running in pursuit of 206

Dawid Malan and Will Luxton are opening the batting. Right-hand, left-hand to take advantage of the short boundary Western Terrace side.

Bears 205-8, 20 overs

The Bears never really looked like getting to 200, but they have done thanks to a late flourish.

Will O’Rourke finished with three wickets and George Hill and Jack White two apiece.

In five T20 innings at Headingley this season, we’ve seen 200 plus totals on four occasions.

This target won’t frighten Yorkshire one bit. They will be very confident.

Bears 175-8, 18.2 overs

Ed Barnard caught Dom Bess bowled Jack White, 67.

Importantly, Yorkshire have got rid of Barnard courtesy of a long-on catch from Bess.

Bears 160-7, 17.1 overs

George Garton caught James Wharton bowled Will O’Rourke, 21.

Sliced out to deep cover, ending a dangerous innings. O’Rourke has three wickets.

Barnard 50

Ed Barnard reaches his fifty off 32 balls. Bears 156-6 in the 17th over.

Not so Gorgeous George!

George Garton has just clobbered two six over long-on, one wider and the other much straighter, off Dom Bess as 21 came from the 16th over. 150-6.

Bears 123-6, 14.2 overs

Kai Smith caught behind Will Luxton bowled Will O’Rourke, 8.

Bears in bother as Smith edges behind a quick short ball from our Kiwi pacer, who has struck twice.

Bears 109-5, 12.5 overs

Moeen Ali lbw Jack White, 9.

Full ball trapped in front playing to leg.

Excellent from Yorkshire.

Bears 98-4, 11.1 overs

Tom Latham caught Jafer Chohan bowled George Hill, 24.

Latham top-edges as he looks to play to leg – halfway house between a pull and sweep – and Chohan takes a fine catch at long-leg.

Bears 85-3, 10 overs

Halfway through the visitors’ innings, and they have steadied following the loss of those three power play wickets.

Tom Latham and Ed Barnard both in the twenties.

Latham and Barnard trying to settle things

Tom Latham 16 and Ed Barnard 4 have taken their side to 69-3 early in the ninth over.

Yorkshire definitely on top here.

Bears 50-3, 5.4 overs

Sam Hain caught Adams Lyth bowled Will O’Rourke, 7.

Caught at point. Healthy start this for Yorkshire.

George Hill

Bears 41-2, 4.1 overs

Dan Mousley bowled Dom Bess, 11.

Bess’s first ball accounts for the wicket of left-handed Mousley.

His excellent Blast continues. He has taken nine wickets now.

Bears 41-1 after four overs

Tom Latham has 10 and Dan Mousley 11.

Mousley has just hit a big six over wide long-on off Jack White.

Bears 20-1, 1.5 overs

Alex Davies caught Jafer Chohan bowled George Hill, 11.

Davies guides Hill to short third.

The ball before he had pulled a six, though Matthew Revis had taken the catch before stepping on the boundary rope.

Jack starts with a cracker

Jack White concedes only three from the first over.

George Hill is sharing the new ball.

All set for the start of play

We’re ready to go here at Headingley. Alex Davies and Tom Latham opening for the Bears.

Jack White has the new ball.

Bears win and bat first

Alex Davies has opted to make first use of the surface.

Yorkshire make one change from the win at Trent Bridge, and it’s an interesting one in that they go in without a specialist keeper. George Hill replaces Harry Duke. Will Luxton will keep wicket.

Yorkshire: Dawid Malan c, Adam Lyth, Will Luxton w, James Wharton, George Hill, Will Sutherland, Matthew Revis, Dom Bess, Jafer Chohan, Will O’Rourke, Jack White.

Around the grounds...

Let’s have a look at what else is happening around the grounds in the Blast tonight.

North Group

Worcestershire Rapids v Lancashire Lightning, Visit Worcestershire New Road

Northamptonshire Steelbacks v Durham, Wantage Road

Nottinghamshire Outlaws v Derbyshire Falcons, Trent Bridge

South Group

Gloucestershire v Somerset, The Seat Unique Stadium, Bristol

Hampshire Hawks v Middlesex, The Utilita Bowl, Southampton

Sussex Sharks v Essex Eagles, The 1st Central County Ground, Hove

Watch out in the Western Terrace

If you’re sat on that side of the ground this evening, it’s a pretty short boundary towards you.

Fascinating finish in store at Lord's

South Africa are chasing 282 to win the World Test Championship final against Australia and are 120-2. Markram 56 and Bavuma 30 are at the crease.

Thompson and Bairstow

Jordan Thompson is currently bowling to Jonny Bairstow in the nets here as both men close in on a return to action after injury.

Good afternoon...

It’s a warm and sunny afternoon at Headingley ahead of tonight’s Blast clash with the Bears, a repeat of last Friday’s meeting at Edgbaston, which the hosts won on that occasion.

Fingers crossed, it’s another home victory this evening.

Both sides have the same won two, lost three record in the early stages of the North Group, though the Bears have a marginally better net run-rate, the first separator for the teams finishing on level points.

While the Bears were beaten by Northamptonshire on Wednesday evening, Yorkshire beat Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge. The likes of Dawid Malan, Jack White, Dom Bess and Will O’Rourke all impressed.

You can read our match preview for this fixture, in which Anthony McGrath spoke about the fascinating battle between bat and ball in T20 cricket at Headingley. That’s available in the post above.
