Yorkshire coach Andrew Gale

“I thought it was a good solid week. We spoke before the game about how we’re probably playing our best cricket of the season towards the back end, and we’ve got some confidence back. We had a good solid draw at Trent Bridge and then beat Lancashire in a close battle.

“We came into this game with a lot of confidence, and I want us to jump on the back of that.

“Before the rain, we were in a commanding position.

“I’m really pleased that we’ve backed up some good work last week, and that’s the first time this season we’ve managed to do that.

“We certainly won’t be going down to Worcester thinking about the two points we need (to avoid relegation). For me, it’s about going down there to win. Worcester are a good side, but they’re there for the taking, and I want to finish the season strongly.”

12pm Play has been abandoned. Match drawn.

Lunch Report

There was no play possible on the fourth morning of the Specsavers County Championship match between Yorkshire and Hampshire at Emerald Headingley due to overnight and morning rain.

Umpires Michael Gough and Graham Lloyd have called for an early lunch at 12pm, although it is still raining and prospects of any play look slim.

Both sides would take eight points from the match with a draw.

Hampshire are safe from relegation and Yorkshire would head into next week’s final round clash with Worcestershire at New Road needing a maximum of two points to secure their safety.

Yorkshire are currently 287-5 in their second innings, leading by 314.

9.44am Lunch will be taken at 12pm here. Umpires Gough and Lloyd will take another look after that.

Crikey

Good morning from Emerald Headingley, where I’m afraid it is a soggy scene ahead of day four of our Specsavers County Championship match against Hampshire.

It is reasonably bright overhead, but showers are drifting in and out.

More of a concern is the scene on the ground, where the covers are in place with significant water on them. The outfield also looks very wet, including wicket ends on practice pitches just inside the boundary rope.

We will bring you an update from the umpires when possible.
