“It’s just a great honour to be a captain of this club. I’m very happy.
“I’ve done it few times this season in the second team and had a full year of it before I came into the firsts. I’ve had a bit of experience, but never at this level.
“I’d say they’re a little bit over par at the minute.
“I think we were a little too inconsistent – not full enough – throughout. But we’ll come back tomorrow and get it right.”

Tea Report Captain Ben Coad claimed two of the three afternoon wickets to fall on day one at Trent Bridge as Nottinghamshire reached tea on 176-6 from 64 overs.
On the opening day of the summer’s final LV= Insurance County Championship fixture, Notts have advanced from 79-3 in 29 at lunch.
Coad struck either side of a Jordan Thompson wicket, with Joe Clarke leading the hosts’ bid to keep their title hopes alive with an unbeaten 65 off 143 balls.
He reached a 96-ball fifty during the afternoon, his eighth of the Championship campaign. His highest score of 2021 in red ball cricket is 67.
Coad had his opposite skipper Steven Mullaney caught behind for 31 by one which moved away off the seam, leaving Notts at 119-4 after 37.
Thompson then had Tom Moores the same way as the left-hander felt for one outside off-stump in the 49th – 147-5.
Clarke was dropped on 59 by Adam Lyth at second slip off Coad, with Notts 162-5 in the 55th over. But the stand-in skipper was rewarded for his endeavour when Liam Patterson-White edged him behind on 16, Notts falling to 173-6 in the 61st.
While Notts can still win the title, Yorkshire can qualify for the Bob Willis Trophy final next week by finishing second in the Division One table.
Both need to win this game and hope for other results to go their way.

As that wicket fell, was just looking up Coad’s captaincy record. He has skippered Yorkshire’s second XI on 10 occasions since 2016, including four of those this season. In 2012, he also captained the Academy once.

Hill has been the pick of the Yorkshire bowlers so far, with 2-32 from nine, that over clearly denting his figures somewhat.

Lunch Report George Hill has taken two of the three Nottinghamshire wickets to fall during an even opening morning of the season-ending LV= Insurance County Championship fixture at Trent Bridge.
Notts can still win the Championship title, while Yorkshire can qualify for the Bob Willis Trophy final at Lord’s next week by finishing second in Division One.
Ben Coad has been handed the honour of captaining Yorkshire for the first time in the absence of injured Steve Patterson (hamstring), and he elected to bowl upon winning the toss.
Notts have since reached lunch on 79-3 from 29 overs.
The hosts had made their way to 45-0 inside 15 overs through Haseeb Hameed and Ben Slater, who made 23 and 18 respectively.
Hameed was first to go when Matthew Fisher had him caught behind playing a late cut – 45-1. Fisher had swapped ends from the Pavilion to Radcliffe Road and was in the first over of his second spell.
Hill then struck in the next over with his fourth ball, Slater also caught behind pushing forwards (47-2).
And when Ben Duckett sliced a drive at Hill’s seamers in the 24th over, Notts were 70-3.
Yorkshire have made three changes to the side which lost against Warwickshire at Emerald Headingley last week.
Gary Ballance (illness), Dawid Malan (rested) and Patterson are all missing, while Will Fraine, Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Matthew Revis are all playing.
To qualify for the Bob Willis final, Yorkshire must win here, hope Warwickshire lose to Somerset and there is a positive result between Lancashire and Hampshire at Liverpool.

Good morning.
It is a lovely morning in Nottingham ahead of the opening day of our final Championship fixture of the season, against Notts.
The sun is shining ahead of a 10.30am start.
Yorkshire sit fifth in Division One and can still finish second to qualify for the Bob Willis Trophy final at Lord’s next week.
The four teams above them, Hampshire, Warwickshire, Lancashire and Notts – in that order – can all win the Championship this week.
Hampshire travel to third-placed Lancashire at Liverpool and Warwickshire host sixth-placed Somerset at Edgbaston.
For Yorkshire to qualify for the Bob Willis, three things must realistically happen. Yorkshire must win this game, there needs to be a winner at Liverpool and Somerset have to beat Warwickshire.
Safe to say, there will be plenty of drama this week. There always is when it comes to the final week of the season.
