Game two
Report
On a glorious day the honours were shared as Yorkshire triumphed in the first game by 16 runs and our hosts were victors in the second game by 58 runs.
Batting first, in the first game, we got off to a “flier” as Ben Birkhead and Will Fraine added 84 in 64 balls before Birkhead was run out for 41 (39 balls; 4×4;1×6). Fraine then became our second run out victim departing for 46 from 36 balls (3×4;2×6). Matthew Revis finished unbeaten on 15 but it was Jack Leaning who provided the impetus with an unbeaten 61 from 31 balls with 7 fours and 4 maximums – we finished 179-2.
Matthew Waite struck twice and Josh Shaw once to reduce Derbyshire to 20-3 and this became 46-5 and 58-6 but we were unable to wrap up their innings as Marshall and Morgan added 58 in 31 balls – the latter making 50 from 38 balls with 2 fours and 2 sixes. However we contributed 26 in extras including 5 no balls as they finished 163-8. Waite finished with 3-38 from his 4 overs and Jack Shutt impressed with 2-15 from his 4.
Game two saw Derbyshire bat first which meant that in the heat we had fielded twice in succession. Hossein made 57 from 48 and Wood 31 from 19 as they added 54 for the first wicket in only 39 balls – 1 six from Wood only narrowly missing entering an open window in a house opposite. Again we used seven bowlers but despite Jack Leaning taking 5-21 from his four overs they totalled 164.
Matthew Revis made 18 from 13 balls but otherwise only Jared Warner with 14 and Karl Carver 27 reached double figures as we were dismissed for 106 inside 17 overs, Godsal finishing with 5-19 from his four overs.
Overnight we travelled to Blackpool where we face Lancashire in two more T20 games on what threatens to be the hottest day of the year.
Finally I would like to thank everyone at Glossop CC for their hospitality and help throughout the day.
