I: You mentioned that people tell you about their own memories of seeing you play at Park Avenue, and the matches that they enjoyed at the ground as well.
R: The people who have stopped me in the street, even today and they talk about the ‘appy days’ that they used to have at Bradford Park Avenue watching Yorkshire play Cricket. Wonderful days, and of course not only did they play County Cricket there, Bradford had a team there what played at Bradford Park Avenue.
What was in the Yorkshire League, sorry what was in the Bradford League and they could go on a Saturday afternoon there and see some good Cricket. Bradford League, and they’d some good teams coming to Bradford Park Avenue and as I say, Bradford Park Avenue had a team.
And people stop me in the street today, and they say what wonderful memories they still treasure of watching Cricket at Bradford Park Avenue. And they all remember my innings!
(laughter). All 191 not out! And they say to me that they were good days, and they were good days, enjoyed by all.
I: Hmmm
R: Yeah…
I: What do you think it was? What was that special feeling that was at Park Avenue?
R: I think it was the atmosphere there at the ground. Well supported, the atmosphere was good, they all enjoyed the game, they all enjoyed Cricket. And they could spend some wonderful, wonderful moments at the ground. And some wonderful, wonderful memories.
