Yorkshire’s D40 Pursuit side extended their perfect start to the new season with a fifth successive win yesterday, this one by only one-wicket chasing 269 at home to Warwickshire at Higham Cricket Club.
The county’s second-string Disability side clinched top spot in the North and Midlands Group thanks largely – but not exclusively so – to a trio of main contributions with ball and then bat at the Barnsley venue.
Warwickshire, inserted, posted 268-8 from their 40 overs, with Lewis Daniels taking the new ball and returning 4-59 from eight overs.
Dan Copping also struck twice before opening the batting with an excellent 75 off 61 balls. And Dairen Hirst-Spalding, who struck the winning blow, impressively contributed 79 off 70.
They shared a third-wicket 185 from 26-2 before retiring not out. But the loss of wickets brought them back together at 268-9, with one run to win.
While Copping didn’t face another ball, Hirst-Spalding hit a boundary to win it.
Youngster Ollie Wills also contributed a valuable 13 late in the chase. Another up and comer in Divyansh Badhan with a patient five was also an important factor in the county getting over the line.
Yorkshire’s final group game is the return fixture against Warwickshire in Solihull on July 19.
Meanwhile, the county’s D40 Quest side are at home to Cheshire this coming Sunday. The White Rose’s Disability first team have played two, lost one and had the other abandoned because of rain in the National Quest League.
The S9 softball team also face Lancashire this Sunday. They have played two, lost two so far in their regional Group B.
