A damaging batting collapse cost Yorkshire the chance to claim a season-ending win over Lancashire at Headingley today, the Red Rose county chasing down a 211-target for the loss of three wickets in 41 overs.
Lauren Winfield-Hill’s excellent opening 90 off 101 balls gave Yorkshire a platform at 179-4 in the 36th over of this Metro Bank One-Day Cup clash, with Ami Campbell also in the midst of a brief attack on retiring ex-England seamer Kate Cross.
Unfortunately, the White Rose slipped to 210 all out, with Winfield-Hill and Campbell, for 26 off 14 – part of a loss of six wickets for 31 runs. Cross claimed two wickets and Fi Morris three wickets.
Both Cross and off-spin bowling all-rounder Morris were playing the last games of their careers.
Lancashire’s in-form opener Eve Jones then led what proved a routine chase with her fifth fifty of the competition added to a century. She top-scored with 77 off 97 balls.
Yorkshire ended a rollercoaster first season in Tier 1 cricket having won three of 16 50-over games added to three wins from 12 in the Vitality Blast.

Champions Lancashire, also out of knockout contention coming into today, claimed their eighth win in 16 games.
Having been inserted, Winfield-Hill whipped and pulled sixes off Cross and left-arm swing bowler Tara Norris, while Cross bowled Rebecca Duckworth and Norris had Jess Jonassen caught behind driving as Yorkshire fell to 53-2 in the 15th over.
Winfield-Hill reached her fifty off 59, only for Sterre Kalis to be bowled for 21 by Fi Morris’s off-spin with the score on 95 in the 22nd.
Sophie Morris’s spin accounted for Erin Thomas – 144-4 in the 33rd.
Campbell heaved Cross for a huge six over mid-wicket into the East Stand seats shortly afterwards before taking a trio of boundaries off the seamer.
Unfortunately, she then fall caught at long-on as the score fell to 179-5 after 36.

As it proved, that was the beginning of the end for Yorkshire.
Fi Morris bowled Sarah Glenn and had Beth Langston stumped. Sandwiched in between, Winfield-Hill miscued a return catch to Norris.
Sophie Morris also trapped Claudie Cooper lbw before Grace Potts wrapped things up by yorking Jess Woolston.
Yorkshire then found wickets hard to come by against Jones, who is one of only three batters in the competition to have topped 600 runs, and Ireland captain Gaby Lewis.
They calmly set a platform.
When Jones uppercut Woolston’s seam over backward point to move to 29, Lancashire were 58-0 in the 12th over.

Shortly afterwards, she pulled Langston for six over mid-wicket and went on to reach her fifty off 64 balls.
However, prior to getting there, she lost Lewis for 25 – bowled by Glenn’s second ball, 83-1 in the 17th.
Left-handed Jones found another partnership in youngster Tilly Kesteven, and they took the score to 120-1 at the halfway mark in the innings.
Off-spinner Cooper, the pick of Yorkshire’s bowlers, bowled Jones with the score on 132 in the 28th over to give Yorkshire a glimmer of hope.
But Kesteven was able to take on the lead role with 47 before falling superbly caught at mid-wicket by Campbell off Rainey with 13 needed to win. Lancashire captain Ellie Threlkeld, 31 not out, later hit the winning runs.
At the end of the game, Yorkshire captain Winfield-Hill presented Cross and Morris with bunch of red and white roses each in recognition of their careers.
