During the Championship game against Sussex at Headingley in the earlier part of the 2021 season Dawid Malan was dismissed for 199 for the second time in his career. This was his first such score for Yorkshire, though, but encouraged Paul Dyson to look at other such totals made by the county’s batters.

During the 2019 season Dawid Malan made exactly 199 for Middlesex against Derbyshire at Derby. At the time he had not made a double century so being dismissed one run short will have been frustrating. However, he moved to Yorkshire for the following season and passed the milestone by scoring 219 at Headingley – against the same opponents! Two years later, though, he was dismissed for 199 yet again! This is only the fourth occasion – and the first for 98 years – on which a Yorkshire batter has been credited with 199 to his name although, as the following shows, one of the players remained unbeaten. The final column shows the number of double centuries each batter made, with the year of the first one in brackets.
