Yorkshire League North – Saturday 31 August 2019

Yorkshire Academy visited Clifton Park to play York, the 2018 champions, in the last away match of the season.

Scorecard

Persistent rain delayed the start to 3.15pm with the match reduced to 38 overs a side.

After winning the toss the Academy elected to bat and lost their first wicket in only the second over. Former York player Finlay Bean joined James Wharton and the pair took the score onto 23 before Wharton was the second batsman to be dismissed.

George Hill joined Bean and these two took the score to 54 before Hill was the third wicket to fall for 24. Two further wickets fell quickly to leave the Academy struggling at 65 for 5 in the 20th over. Dominic Leech joined Bean and they put on a stand of 40 for the 6th wicket before Leech was dismissed for 21.

Bean and Josh Sullivan then put on a partnership of 46 before Sullivan was out for 20 to leave the Academy on 151 for 7 in the penultimate over. Bean finished on 74 not out from 100 balls with 5 fours which was his highest score of the season. At the end of the reduced 38 overs the Academy were 171 for 7.
Jack Charters, Dan Woods and Charlie Elliot were the main wicket takers for the host side taking two wickets each.

In the reply York lost the important wicket of Duncan Snell early on with the total on 22. Ben Robinson and James Billington took the score to 83 in the 19th over before Billington was out for 44. The light began to fade quickly and the umpires took the players off at the end of the 23rd over with York on 104 for 2 with Robinson 27 not out with York ahead on DLS.

The Sullivan brothers, Josh and Harry, were the wicket takers.

The defeat leave Yorkshire Academy eighth in the Yorkshire League North table with the last match of the season at Weetwood against Harrogate next Saturday.
