Yorkshire Academy visited bottom of the table Beverley Town on a warm sunny Bank Holiday Monday.

Tom Loten won the toss and elected to bat.

The Academy openers James Wharton and Vikram Sharma put on an excellent stand of 124 with both batsmen getting half centuries. Wharton was first wicket to fall for exactly 50 from 76 balls with 3 fours and a six. Sharma followed three balls later for 60 from 61 balls with 6 fours and a six. George Hill and Arjun Ramkumar took the score to 184 before Ramkumar became the third wicket to fall. The captain Tom Loten joined Hill and the pair put on 40 before Hill was also dismissed after passing 50 with 57 to his name from 68 balls with 7 fours with the total moving on to 224 for 4 in the 46th over.

The Academy finished on a respectable 264 for 5 from 50 overs.

Greg Whyley 2 for 59 and Andy Burton 2 for 42 were the chief wicket takers for Beverley Town.

In their reply the Beverley openers Ben Hatfield and Harry Gamble put on 50 for the first wicket before Hatfield fell for 31. A further three wickets fell quickly to leave Beverley 55 for 4 in the 14th over. Gamble was joined by Ben Fish and they put on 69 for the 5th wicket before Fish was dismissed. Wickets continued to fall on a regular basis to leave Beverley 154 for 8 from 35.3 overs. Tom Haytack joined opener Gamble and they put on 52 for the ninth wicket before Haytack was out with the total moving onto 206 for 9 with 4 overs remaining. The bowlers could not dismiss the last wicket pair as Beverley Town completed their overs to finish on 211 for 9 with Gamble carrying his bat for an excellent 111 not out from 150 balls with 10 fours and a six, reaching his century from 125 balls.

For the Academy George Hill 2 for 33, Harry Harding 2 for 47 and Josh Sullivan 2 for 44 were the main wicket takers.

There are two matches remaining in the Yorkshire League North season and on Saturday, Yorkshire Academy travel to York and then are at home to Harrogate the following Saturday.
