Yorkshire’s D40 Pursuit side – the county’s second string disability team – were beaten in yesterday’s national semi-final by Somerset at Kidderminster.
Somerset booked a final berth later this month with Middlesex on the back of a three-wicket win chasing 201 in 40 overs.
After winning six group games from six, the White Rose county suffered their first defeat of the summer having posted a total of 200-7.
Inserted Yorkshire made a strong start, with openers Daniyal Zaman, who top-scored with a well-paced 68 off 71 balls, and Dairen Hirst-Spalding sharing 74 inside 13 overs.
Unfortunately, that nobody else was able to better Hirst-Spalding’s 25 was costly for coach Darren Spooner and captain Archie Atkins Sloan.
Jacob Lunn stood out for Somerset with 3-25 from seven overs before seeing his wicketkeeper-batter Oli Dobrijevic underpin a successful chase with 69 off 55 balls from number three.
William Baxter, Dan Copping and Ollie Wills all struck twice for Yorkshire, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a defeat which came with 3.1 overs to spare.
