Week three of 2022’s Yorkshire Regional Cricket’s season saw the return of some sunny weather, with all age groups in action, barring the U11s – who had a week off to put their feet up after a busy double-header last weekend.

In the U10s, East & Central played host to West Yorkshire at Ackworth CC. West batted first, setting 120-8, thanks to a great start from opener and captain George Hall (47). This proved far too many for East & Central, as they were skittled for just 61, after an impressive bowling performance from West, with Hugo Nolson claiming 3-6. Meanwhile, North Yorkshire were playing South. North batted first, making 152-8 from their 35 overs, with Riley Hirst’s 63* the standout innings of the day. James Sturman claimed 3-23 for South. In the chase, South could only make 73 all out, with the wickets shared between the attack.

In the U12s, Upper Haugh Cricket Club saw South entertain North. The visitors batted first and set a modest total of 102 all out, with South’s Daniel Credland claiming 5-19. However, this proved 36 runs too many for South, as they were bowled all out for 68 in the reply. West travelled to East & Central and set the hosts 165 to win as they were dismissed for 164 all out in the first innings, with runs from William Taylor (57), Harri Hayre (33) and Jack Sharkey (31), with George Cameron (3-26) the pick of the E&C bowlers. The West bowlers then secured the victory, bowling East & Central out for 127, with Fraser Marshall (3-14) the top bowler, as Oscar Childs’ 30 for East & Central proved to be in vain.

In the U13s, North scraped up to 113 all out from their 45 overs against West Yorkshire, with Isaac Grimes (3-10) the pick of the West bowlers. Despite the relatively low total, it was almost enough for victory, with West needing all 11 batters, as they knocked off the total nine down, with captain Joseph Hayes’ 42-ball 50* proving the match-winning performance, despite 4-20 and 3-34 from North bowlers Samuel Stockton and Jack Everett. It was an even closer game as South hosted East & Central at Monk Bretton CC, as the teams played out a thrilling tie! East & Central batted first and reached 132 all out, with Luke Wilson (36) top scoring and Noah Jackson (3-13) and Enzo Campagna (3-24) both bagging 3-fers. Charlie Taylor’s 58 might have won it for South, but wickets near the end left the hosts 132-9 at the end of play, with the scores tied. Samuel Mara (3-13) was the top bowler for East & Central.

In the U14s, East & Central batted first at a sunny Driffield Town CC, at home to North Yorkshire. E&C posted 149 all out in the first innings, with runs from Oliver Whyte (31) and three wickets for Hector Hamill (3-29). Rollo Storey (35) got North off to a good start in the reply, but a fightback from the hosts had North in trouble, before they eventually knocked off the total, seven down, with Dawud Muneer claiming 3-44. In the other game in the age group, South amassed 220-7 from their 50 overs, with Tom Bradley (72) and Finley South (49) both in the runs. In the chase, West could only make 149-9, with Oscar Webster (33) the main contributor. Rohan Patel (4-19) did most of the damage for South.

In the U15s, West claimed a comprehensive nine-wicket win over North. North batted first, making 135 all out, with West’s Inshul Dar claiming 4-16. Then, West secured the win in under 25 overs, with opener Robbie Murray unbeaten on 62* and Shahzaib Sayeed notching 51*. East & Central also enjoyed a nine-wicket win against South. South reached 122 in the first innings, including 42 for Aiden Dawson, as Nash Charles took a superb 6-28. Adam Watson (63*) and Liam Phillips (37) then ensured victory for East & Central in the 28th over.
