Fin Bean

Picture by John Heald. Dan Moriarty was full of praise for Fin Bean after close on day two. The pair will begin day three at the crease together in the morning.

Four-wicket spinner Dan Moriarty praised the efforts of opening batter Fin Bean as his unbeaten 86 helped Yorkshire respond positively to leaders Nottinghamshire’s 487 all out during the second half of day two at Trent Bridge.

Bean underpinned Yorkshire’s 154-3 reply from 55 overs with the best score of a season which has proved a challenge so far for the highly-rated young left-hander.

“Beany’s got probably one of the hardest jobs in county cricket, opening the batting at Headingley against some of the best bowlers in the country,” said Moriarty.

“So very good for him, I think he applied himself very well.

“He showed great discipline and great patience, and hopefully he carries on and turns it into a big knock.”

Moriarty claimed two wickets on day one and two wickets today, finishing with 4-91 from 30.4 overs.

The left-armer is playing his second match in this season’s Rothesay County Championship and now has six wickets to his name.

He continued: “It’s always nice to take wickets and contribute. You never know when the next one’s going to be.

“I feel like I’ve been bowling well without many rewards, so hopefully this is a turn that I need.”

Notts started the day on 298-6 and made their way to 487, with 87 apiece for overseas Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan and all-rounder Liam Patterson-White.

“It’s been quite attritional cricket thus far,” said Moriarty. “But we still need to make sure we apply ourselves for long periods and keep ourselves in this game.

“I don’t think it’s the kind of wicket where you’re going to nip guys out and spin it miles.

“We needed to build pressure and try and bowl as many dot balls as we could.

“They played quite well this morning, and with good aggression.

“We probably let them get a few too many runs, but we’ve got to do the same now and try and bat for long periods of time and go past them.

“It’s a good time for us to really try and spend some time in the middle and kick-start our second half of the season. We’re trying to put our best foot forward win games of cricket for Yorkshire. That’s the plan.”
