Toss: Hampshire won it and elected to bat.

Teams – Hampshire: Maia Bouchier, Georgia Adams c, Abi Norgrove, Francesca Sweet, Rhianna Southby w, Naomi Dattani, Nancy Harman, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Poopy Tulloch, Eliza Bristowe, Bex Tyson.

Match Summary: Yorkshire, chasing 175, were beaten by Finals Day chasing Hampshire by 42 runs.

The White Rose suffered their sixth Blast defeat in seven this term, replying to 174-5 with 132-7.

Lauren Winfield-Hill top-scored with 39 off 31 balls after spin duo Jess Jonassen and Olivia Thomas had struck twice apiece with the ball.

Hampshire claimed their fourth win in seven and went top of the table in the process.

Their captain Georgia Adams impressed with 30 opening the batting and 2-30 from four overs of off-spin.

Report: Hampshire flew out of the blocks, with experienced openers Maia Bouchier and Georgia Adams – the home captain – piling the pressure on.

They found the boundary with regularity against seam and spin as 60 runs came from the first six overs.

Yorkshire did peg things back impressively outside of the powerplay thanks to two wickets for Olivia Thomas in successive overs as the score fell to 85-2 in the 10th.

The leg-spinner, whose first half of the season was beset by injury, struck with her first ball in the eighth over when Bouchier offered a return catch off a leading edge on 44 before getting Adams lbw sweeping for 30.

And when Jess Jonassen had Francesca Sweet stumped not long after, Hampshire were 108-3 in the 13th.

As the powerplay unfolded, a total of 200 plus was looking a distinct possibility. But, despite two or three dropped catches, Yorkshire took wickets at key moments – just when Hampshire were really looking to put their foot on the throat.

Claudie Cooper yorked Rhianna Southby and bowled her for 17 – 133-4 in the 16th – before Jess Jonassen had Abi Norgrove caught at short third for 36 in the last over.

But Nancy Harman’s unbeaten 27 off 14 balls got her side up beyond 170 on a pitch used previously during a series of women’s T20 World Cup matches.

Ami Campbell then hit two fours off the first two balls of the Yorkshire chase – against the off-spin of Adams – and 17 runs came from the opening two overs.

Jess Jonassen

But Yorkshire needed more. And when Campbell and opening partner Erin Thomas holed out against Adams and left-arm spinner Bex Tyson in the space of three balls in the third and fourth overs, Yorkshire were 20-2 and with a mountain to climb.

Shortly afterwards, Amelia Oliver was bowled attacking against Naomi Dattani’s left-arm seam.

Jonassen and Lauren Winfield-Hill hit early boundaries down the ground as the White Rose reached the end of the powerplay at 46-3.

Jonassen then drilled the leg-spin of Amanda-Jade Wellington, her fellow Australian, to mid-off – 51-4 in the eighth.

And, despite Winfield-Hill’s presence and nearing 20, Hampshire had a real stranglehold on things.

The White Rose reached the 10-over mark at 63-4, with Winfield-Hill going nicely on 25. One particular lofted driven boundary down the ground off Dattani was a leading contender for shot-of-the-match.

Alice Clarke also settled well at the crease, and both were inventive in sharing 37.

Winfield-Hill was then well caught by Wellington back peddling from short fine-leg following a top-edged pull at Adams, Yorkshire were 88-5 in the 14th.

Clarke, like Winfield-Hill, moved into the thirties in pleasing fashion, but her consolatory innings was ended on 34 off 35 balls when she was bowled by Tyson.

Lauren Winfield-Hill

Rebecca Duckworth was then bowled by Poppy Tulloch’s seam in the final over.

Magic moment: Olivia Thomas had England opener Maia Bouchier caught and bowled with her first ball of the match, in the eighth over. Thomas spent the first two months of the season sidelined with a shin injury, and this was only her fifth appearance of 2026. So to see her gain early success was very heartening.

Turning point: It came early, unfortunately. Hampshire took 60 runs off their six overs of powerplay, with Maia Bouchier and Georgia Adams sharing 12 boundaries between them.

Stat of the match: Yorkshire came back impressively outside of the powerplay, taking five wickets for the addition of 114 runs in the final 14 overs of the innings. Unfortunately, though, the early assault proved key for the hosts.

What they said – Alice Clarke: “It’s a tough one. Lauren (Winfield-Hill) has just spoken really well in the changing rooms there, saying that we’re better than what we’re showing at the minute.

“I thought Liv Thomas coming in when they were going at nines quite comfortably and bowling two overs for seven and taking two wickets, I’m really pleased for her to show everyone what she can do after what’s been a tough couple of months.

“Our catching let us down a little bit.

“The batting, we’ve got so much talent. I’ve only been here a couple of weeks, but I can see it. But, having said that, this group has got a long way to go and it was disappointing we couldn’t get over the line there.

“They got off to a bit of a flyer, but the way we dug deep and fought back shows what we have in us. That belief is something we’re going to have keep going with.

Ines Blackwell

“I’d have liked to have gone a bit quicker (with the bat). I was a bit slow at the start. The aim is to win, and I suppose coming off with a run-a-ball 30 is not where you want to be in a T20.

“I didn’t find the middle of the bat as much as I’d like, but it’s all experience for me.”

What’s next: It’s the first of two Roses Blast matches in 2026. Yorkshire host Lancashire Thunder at Clifton Park, York on Wednesday afternoon, starting at 2.30pm.
