The Yorkshire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce that Dawid Malan has signed a new two-year white ball contract with the county.
Handing Yorkshire an early Christmas present, the former England opening batter, who retired from international cricket earlier this year, will be available to play red ball cricket when possible.
Malan arrived at Yorkshire from Middlesex ahead of 2020 and will now remain with the club until at least the end of the 2026 season.
The prolific 37-year-old has scored 2,899 runs from 59 appearances across both first-class and T20 cricket for Yorkshire. He has scored five centuries, all in first-class cricket.
He has a best of 219 to his name in first-class cricket and 96 in T20.
Left-handed Malan has been the county’s leading run-scorer in the Vitality Blast for the last two seasons, scoring 546 runs from 13 appearances in 2023 and 420 from 12 in 2024 at the top of the order.
Classy Malan’s decision is a major boost to new coach Anthony McGrath as Yorkshire get set for a Rothesay County Championship Division One campaign for the first time since 2022.
Malan said: “I’ve loved my five seasons at Yorkshire, so re-signing here was a very easy decision. My family feel really settled here.
“I’m looking forward to the coming summer and beyond, and am confident we can challenge for trophies across all formats. The boys were fantastic during the second half of the season, and we’re confident of being able to kick on again. I’ve had some good conversations with Anthony (McGrath) and Gavin (Hamilton), and am really looking forward to playing my part in what we are looking to achieve over the next few years.
“We’ve played some excellent T20 cricket at stages during my time here and have shown massive potential, highlighted by us getting to Finals Day in 2022. It’s just about finding that consistency to make sure we’re a real threat in that competition and I’m confident we can do that moving forward.”
Yorkshire’s general manager of cricket Gavin Hamilton said: “Dawid signing for another two years is great news. It’s really, really exciting for us. He’s made it clear to us that Yorkshire is his home and he wants to play as much as he can for us. He’s had good chats with Anthony, and between the three of us we’re very clear on where we want to go and what he wants to do.
“You add Mala to the the mix with potentially Jonny Bairstow, a bit of Joe Root, maybe Harry Brook and the right overseas, and we’re very confident about what is around the corner.”
