YORKSHIRE WIN!!!!

Four wickets for Hill and Bess.

Yorkshire win by an innings and 44, their fourth win of the season.

Durham subside to 85 all out from 29-1.

Durham 83-9, 44 overs

Daniel Hogg caught behind Jonny Bairstow bowled Dom Bess, 0.

Two in two for Bess.

Durham 83-8, 43.5 overs

Matthew Potts caught Fin Bean bowled Dom Bess, 0.

Caught short-leg. Unbelievable.

Durham are in a real pickle.

Durham 83-7, 43.2 overs

Ben Raine caught Matthew Revis bowled Dom Bess, 6.

Oh my word. Remarkable shot. Raine miscues Bess to mid-off running around towards cover.

Durham are subsiding here.

Durham 76-6, 40.1 overs

Graham Clark caught Mayank Agarwal bowled George Hill, 0.

Caught at backward point. Wow!

What an afternoon.

And 50 wickets for the season for George Hill.

Durham 74-5, 38.5 overs

Ollie Robinson lbw George Hill, 7.

Oh my word. Robinson lbw to one which shoots through.

He lingered, maybe thinking it was going down leg.

If this light doesn’t intervene here, Durham are in all sorts of bother.

Not that it matters to Yorkshire. Hill has 49 wickets for the season. Superb.

First light chat

Umpires Burns and O’Shaughnessy have just consulted re the light.

We carry on, though. Durham 74-4.

Light looking like it could be a factor

The floodlights are on, and the light isn’t crash hot.

But Durham’s knees will be knocking now.

They’re 67-4 after 35 overs. We have 54 left, in theory.

Durham 62-4, 34.2 overs

David Bedingham caught behind Jonny Bairstow bowled Jordan Thompson, 28.

Durham under significant pressure now with their Division One future on the line.

Thompson has two in as many overs.

Ollie Robinson and Will Rhodes together now.

Durham 57-3, 33 overs

Ben McKinney lbw Jordan Thompson, 7.

McKinney shoulders arms to a straight one and is rapped on the front pad. Very out.

Yorkshire have kicked the door ajar here.

Durham 57-2, 33rd over

David Bedingham has started brightly with 23 off 30 balls, with Ben McKinney 7.

Durham are 72 behind with the best part of 57 overs remaining.

Durham 29-2, 25.2 overs

Alex Lees caught behind Jonny Bairstow bowled Dom Bess, 18.

Pushing forwards, Lees on his way. Beauty of a ball.

Durham are 99 behind with David Bedingham and Ben McKinney now together.

Up and running after lunch

We have 66 overs remaining.

Alex Lees 17 and Ben McKinney 1.

Lunch. Durham 27-1, 23 overs

George Hill has claimed the only wicket so far in Durham’s second innings.

Alex Lees has 17 and Ben McKinney 1.

The visitors trail by 102 runs with 66 overs remaining in the day.

Durham 25-1, 15 overs

Emilio Gay caught behind Jonny Bairstow bowled George Hill, 9.

Hill claims his 48th Championship wicket of the summer. Gay undone pushing forwards.

Durham still have plenty of work to do for safety.

Dom Bess is into the attack for Yorkshire as well as Hill.

Ben McKinney in for Durham.

Durham 20-0, 11th over

Alex Lees has 11 and Emilio Gay 9.

George Hill is into the attack to bowl his first over.

Durham 7-0, 5th over

Alex Lees has 6 and Emilio Gay 1.

Jack White and Matt Milnes are searching for the new-ball breakthrough.

Yorkshire remain in Division One

Surrey have beaten Hampshire by 20 runs at Southampton, bowling them out for 160 in pursuit of 181.

That means Yorkshire will be in Division One in 2026.

Now, Durham have to survive the day for a draw and they will be too.

Yorkshire 129 ahead with 89 overs remaining in the day.

Jack White bowls to Alex Lees.

Yorkshire 475 all out, 141.4 overs

Jordan Thompson caught Alex Lees bowled Ben Raine, 50.

Drilled a catch to long-off.

Yorkshire have a lead of 129.

Raine finishes with an excellent 5-76 from 36.5 overs.

Hampshire are 159-9, needing 22 more to beat Surrey at Southampton.

Thompson 50

Jordan Thompson gets there off 112 balls with 6x4s and 1x6s. Fine knock.

Yorkshire 475-9, leading by 129.

Yorkshire 471-9, 139 overs

Jordan Thompson 46 and Jack White 4.

The latter has just driven a full toss from Shafiqullah Ghafari down the ground for four.

Yorkshire lead by 125.

Hampshire are 156-9 chasing 181. They’ve hit a couple of boundaries already.

All set here at Headingley

Yorkshire 465-9, leading by 119 in the first innings.

Jordan Thompson on 44 is facing Ben Raine.

Thompson has Jack White for company.

The initial intrigue comes from Southampton, however, where Hampshire are 148-9 chasing that 181 to beat Surrey. Fail to get there and Yorkshire are safe.

Good morning...

From Headingley, and for the last time in 2025.

It’s a dry and bright morning, and we could have an exhilarating end to the summer.

And that’s because of the situations of both teams.

Yorkshire have one hand on a place in Division One for next summer. They may not have to do anything else for it to be secured. Should Surrey beat Hampshire at the Utilita Bowl this morning, they would be safe. Hampshire are 148-9 chasing 181.

The real intrigue surrounds Durham, who currently occupy the second relegation place.

Should Surrey win, they need to draw to survive. Should Hampshire win, they must win this game to survive. A Durham win would relegate Yorkshire.

But, with only a day remaining – and the chances high of not a full day’s play given the possibility of deteriorating light later – that is an almighty task.

They currently trail by 119. Yorkshire are 465-9 in their first-innings reply to 346. So, they have to get this last wicket quickly and then may have to bat in overdrive for 40 overs or so and then defend a target of 150-180.

Of course, their task may also be to defend for their lives.

Yorkshire hold all the Aces and are keen to finish off with a victory, what would be their fourth this season.

You can recap yesterday’s action via our match report and reaction piece with George Hill. They are both available via the embedded X posts above.

Hill, of course, is sat on 47 wickets in this seas0n’s Championship. It would be lovely if he can get to 50 today.

Enjoy the day.
