Live: Sussex v Yorkshire Men, Rothesay CC, Day Three
Yorkshire are in day three action at The 1st Central County Ground, Hove, against Sussex. Follow our blog for live updates throughout the day.
Play abandoned for the day
Sussex 232-8, 75 overs, leading by 38.
Yorkshire take four wickets in the day, with Dom Bess taking two of them in an excellent six-over spell.
We’re heading for a draw but will hopefully complete the accumulation of bonus points in the morning.
If there was to be a winner, Sussex are the most likely from here.
Inspection 5.50pm
The umpires will have a look at the light in 10 minutes time.

Sun's trying to break through
It’s as light now as it has been all day. Quite a pleasant afternoon.
Sussex, though, are 220-6 with John Simpson on 66.
Hampshire in bother
Good news for both of these counties comes from Taunton, where Hampshire, who are in eighth place compared to Yorkshire’s seventh and Sussex’s sixth, are 132-7 in their first-innings reply to Somerset’s 454-8 declared.
Sussex 195-6, 57 overs
Sussex have a lead of one with John Simpson on 57 and Fynn Hudson-Prentice 3.
Near misses
Oh no.
John Simpson has just benefitted from a couple slices of fortune.
He’s edged Matthew Revis down leg-side, only for Jonny Bairstow to get a hand to it going low to his right. It would have been a stunning catch.
Unfortunately, having just edged George Hill low down to Adam Lyth at slip on 53, that was a chance Lyth would have expected to take. Sussex 187-6.
Simpson also offered a return catch to Revis which was spilled just before he got to 50, but that was a no ball and would have been a great catch too.
Simpson 50
John Simpson reaches his fifty off 93 balls, taking Sussex to 184-6.
Sussex 178-6, 53 overs
Jack Carson caught Adam Lyth bowled George Hill, 22.
Pushing forwards, caught low down at second slip by Lyth.
Sussex trail by 16.
Fynn Hudson-Prentice joins John Simpson, who has 47.
That wicket breaks a 52-run stand, the best of the innings so far.
Yorkshire need a wicket or two
This hasn’t been the day that Yorkshire would have wanted so far, and they could do with a couple of quick ones just to check Sussex’s progression towards a first-innings lead.
They are 177-5, with John Simpson and Jack Carson having shared a half-century stand. Simpson 46 and Carson 22.
Four games up and running
There are five games in play in Division One this week, and for a while this morning ours was the only one which had started today. Now, there are four in play. The only one which has got underway on day three is Warwickshire v Essex at Edgbaston.
Surrey need 315 to beat Nottinghamshire at the Kia Oval in the effective title decider.
Sussex 131-5, trailing by 63
Early stages of the afternoon and John Simpson has just picked up a boundary off Matt Milnes, through mid-wicket. He has 27.

Matt Milnes claimed the only wicket to fall in a near 19-over session.
John Simpson has 23 and Jack Carson is yet to get off the mark.
Sussex are 67 behind with five sessions remaining in the match.
Sussex 126-5, 40.1 overs
Tom Alsop bowled Matt Milnes, 36.
Left-handed Alsop jams down on a yorker and can only deflect it onto leg-stump.
Jack Carson in alongside John Simpson, who has 22.
Timely wicket for Yorkshire, with Sussex 71 adrift.
Sussex 119-4, 39th over
Tom Alsop has 35 and John Simpson 16.
Sussex trail by 75 as their two left-handers dig in against Matt Milnes and Jordan Thompson.
Sussex 107-4, 34th over
Matt Milnes is into the attack.
Tom Alsop has 29 and John Simpson 10.
Sussex’s deficit is 87.
Lunch will be taken at 1pm.
Chance goes begging
Frustration for Yorkshire as Tom Alsop, on 24, edges George Hill straight through the gap between first and second slip.
Sussex have now moved to 103-4 in the 31st over.
Sussex 85-4, 26th over
George Hill has just had an appeal for lbw against Tom Alsop turned down due to an inside edge.
Sussex have only added one run in the early stages of the day.
Play to start under the lights
The players are on their way out to the middle.
The floodlights are on here at Hove.
Sussex 84-4 in reply to Yorkshire’s 194 all out.
Start time, 11.45am
We have good news!
There will be 84 overs scheduled in the day.
Further inspection at 11am
The umpires will take a look again in 20 minutes time.
Inspection 10.30am
The umpires will inspect at 10.30am.
So we do have confirmation of a delayed start. But the mopping up process is underway.
Rain has stopped, covers coming off
The ground-staff are starting to remove the covers, and the blotter is in full swing.
Good morning...
From Hove, where, unfortunately, it’s a fairly miserable scene at present.
Light but persistent rain is sweeping across the ground, and the covers are firmly in place.
Whilst there’s been no word from the umpires as yet – it’s a bit early – it would be a major surprise if we started on time at 10.30am.
When we do start, Sussex will do so on 84-4 in reply to our first-innings 194. Matt Milnes struck twice yesterday in what was a good comeback with the ball from the visitors after the batting disappointments earlier in the day.
The weather is supposed to get better throughout day three. It may just be that we have to be patient for now.

Enjoy the day.
