Live: Somerset v Yorkshire Men, Rothesay CC, Day One
Yorkshire's men are back in Rothesay County Championship action for the first time since late July, facing Somerset at the Cooper Associates County Ground, Taunton. Follow our blog for live updates throughout day one.
Play has been abandoned for the day
The umpires have made the decision to call off play for the day due to a wet outfield.
Somerset finish on 155-3 from 42 overs.
Inspection underway, covers coming off
The umpires, Rob Bailey and Mark Newell, are inspecting and have asked for the covers to be taken off.
We await further news.
Covers back on
We are bathed in sunshine here at Taunton, but the ground-staff have put the covers back on here.
Having had our hopes of a resumption raised, maybe they’re about to be dashed again.
Talking of Kohler-Cadmore!
We’ve watched Tom Kohler-Cadmore score runs for Somerset today.
Well, on Saturday, his brother Ben was opening the batting for Hoylandswaine in the Huddersfield League and scored 204 in their 50-over total of 592-5 against Honley.
Luke Bridges posted 210 off 118 balls and Samit Patel – yes, that Samit Patel – posted 145 not out off 54.
In reply, Honley were bowled out for 369, losing by 223 runs.
Pretty decent reply that, to be fair.
Elsewhere....
There are a number of games in Division One which impact Yorkshire.
Here’s a run down of the current state of play on day one.
Durham are 262-4 against Essex at Chelmsford
Surrey have been bowled out for 246 by Warwickshire at the Oval. The Bears are 10-1 in reply.
Hampshire are 213-7 against Sussex at Hove.
Worcestershire are 158-8 against Nottinghamshire at New Road, where they’re off for rain.
There will be an inspection at 4.30pm
The umpires, Rob Bailey and Mark Newell, have called a further inspection in 40 minutes’ time.
Mop-up can begin at 3.34pm
ECB protocols on thunder and lightning say the ground-staff can’t return to the outfield for 30 minutes after the last lightning strike, which was 3.04pm.
We are bathed in sunshine at present.
Rain has stopped
The good news is that the rain has stopped. The bad news is that there’s a lot of water on the outfield.
Tea being taken here
The umpires have called an early tea.
It’s hammering down, and there are puddles on the outfield.
Raining has hit us
It’s raining hard now, and the thunder and lightning continues.
Storm about to hit the ground
Somerset’s PA announcer is urging spectators to seek shelter here due to a storm in the area.
We have had more thunder and lightning, and much closer to the ground as well.
Even if it doesn’t rain, which seems unlikely, play can’t resume until half an hour after the last thunder and lightning strike.

Play suspended due to thunder and lightning
Thunder and lightning in the distance, added to expected rain shortly, means play has been halted.
The decision to take the players off now, even though it’s not raining, is because the ground-staff would not be allowed to put the covers on should the thunder and lightning get closer.
Somerset 147-3, 37.4 overs
Tom Kohler-Cadmore caught George Hill bowled Jordan Thompson, 76.
Caught at first slip as Yorkshire break the century stand between Kohler-Cadmore and James Rew, who has 51.

Kohler-Cadmore frustrating Yorkshire
Tom Kohler-Cadmore has taken the aggressive route, and it’s paying off.
He’s had his fortune – as edging past slip trying to attack Dom Bess has just shown.

It could easily have been 75-4 this morning. Unfortunately not, however.

Meanwhile. Yorkshire seconds are playing a Championship match against Somerset down the round at Taunton Vale and are 47-1.
You don’t often get that where the same counties are playing first and second-team fixtures in the same town.

Good morning...
From Taunton, where it’s a lovely morning ahead of a 10.30am start for game number 12 of 14 in this season’s Rothesay County Championship.
Seventh-placed Yorkshire travel to third-placed Somerset bidding for win number four. If they achieve it, the county will pretty much preserve their Division One status even if not mathematically so. Equally, they would be within striking distance of a third-placed finish.
First port of call is ensuring safety, and the cushion is 12 points to second-bottom Durham, who face eighth-placed Essex at Chelmsford this week.
Somerset are 23 points ahead of Yorkshire and 26 behind league leaders Surrey. This is last-chance saloon in terms of their title hopes. They have to win this game in that regard.
It looks like we’re going to play on a very green pitch this week. Whether it does as much as it looks like it’s going to, we’ll have to wait and see.
You may have seen Jonny Bairstow’s instagram post last night of the pitch, which got quite a bit of attention. It is the same one, though it’s currently being cut by the ground-staff. You can see our photo above.

Enjoy the day.
