Live: Kent Spitfires v Yorkshire Women, MBODC

Yorkshire's women face Kent at Canterbury today aiming to secure a semi-final place in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup. Victory with a bonus point in the final group game of the competition would secure their progression. Follow this blog for live updates throughout the day.

Middlesex in the semi-finals

Yorkshire will face Middlesex at Radlett next Sunday in the semi-finals of the Metro Bank One-Day Cup.

YORKSHIRE WIN!!!

Alice Grant caught behind Lauren Winfield-Hill bowled Jess Woolston, 0.

Kent 125 all out inside 35 overs, with Yorkshire winning by 279 runs.

We have qualified for the semi-finals, and will face Middlesex next weekend.

We will confirm the details when we can.

Kent 124-9, 33.5 overs

Izzy James caught Ria Fackrell bowled Olivia Thomas, 1.

Pulled to mid-wicket, and Thomas’s leg-spin has accounted for three wickets.

Kent 121-8, 31.4 overs

Zeena Bilal lbw Ria Fackrell, 7.

Fackrell’s off-spin strikes again. That’s her second wicket.

Kent 119-7, 31 overs

Megan Belt bowled Jess Woolston, 11.

Belt is bowled attempting to scoop.

Kent’s chase of 405 has long gone.

The only game in play

There are four matches being played in the One-Day Cup today, and the other three have been halted by rain.

As long as Yorkshire win this with a bonus point, which they’re going to do, it doesnt matter what happens elsewhere.

Kent 107-6 in the 29th over.

Kent 105-6, 26.4 overs

Jodie Hobson lbw Claudie Cooper, 0.

This game is quickly drawing to a conclusion, with Kent having lost three wickets for two runs inside three overs.

Kent 103-5, 25.1 overs

Coco Streets caught Claudie Cooper bowled Ria Fackrell, 17.

Jammed to point. It initially looked like a bump ball, but Fackrell strikes with her off-spin.

Yorkshire can start preparing for a semi-final at Middlesex next weekend.

Kent 103-4, 24.3 overs

Ella Darlington lbw Claudie Cooper, 13.

Yorkshire have another as spin continues to excel.

Darlington is trapped in front sweeping.

Kent 100-3, 23 overs

Yorkshire are racing through the overs with spin, with Coco Streets on 16 and Ella Darlington on 11.

Kent 74-3, 16 overs

Elsa Barnfather caught Ami Campbell bowled Olivia Thomas, 19.

Caught at slip by Campbell, and Thomas strikes for the second time in the over.

Yorkshire have this game wrapped up.

Kent 73-2, 15.3 overs

Megan Sturge caught Erin Thomas bowled Olivia Thomas, 31.

Stunning one-handed grab from Thomas going to her right at cover.

Kent 71-1, 15 overs

Megan Sturge has 30 and Elsa Barnfather 18.

Olivia Thomas about to start her third over as Kent chase this mammoth target.

Lauren Winfield-Hill

Today’s star, Lauren Winfield-Hill, celebrates reaching her century.

Picture: Joshua Bowles Media/Kent Cricket.

Kent 58-1 in the 13th over of their chase of 405. Hannah Rainey is currently bowling her second over.

Kent 47-1, 11th over

They’re playing through rain at Canterbury, and Yorkshire are a long way ahead of the DLS total.

10 overs of the chase constitutes a result, which is good news for the White Rose.

Kent 32-1, 6.3 overs

Amy Gordon lbw Beth Langston, 10.

Breakthrough for Yorkshire, who have a stranglehold on this game as Kent chase 405.

Elsa Barnfather in now alongside Megan Sturge.

Kent 23-0, 4 overs

It’s getting gloomier at Canterbury. Seems like the rain is on its way.

Kent are chasing 405.

Winfield-Hill keeping

Lauren Winfield-Hill has the wicketkeeping gloves, which is a change to the advertised scorecard.

Kent are 3-0 in the second over, chasing 405.

Jess Woolston is sharing the new ball.

Langston with the new ball

Beth Langston is bowling to Amy Gordon, with Megan Sturge the other Kent opener.

The hosts are chasing 405.

Yorkshire 404-5, 50 overs

Yorkshire rack them up at Canterbury.

Lauren Winfield-Hill top-scores with a fabulous, record-breaking 194.

Erin Thomas 54 and Maddie Ward 69 not out.

Yorkshire are on course for the semi-finals.

In the games of interest elsewhere, Worcestershire have been bowled out for 177 by Middlesex at Northwood and Leicestershire post 259-9 v Gloucestershire. Wins for Middlesex and Leicestershire are ideal for Yorkshire. But, as long as the White Rose win with a bonus point here, nothing else matters. That would be enough for semi-final qualification.

Yorkshire 373-5, 47 overs

Rebecca Duckworth run out, 1.

Beth Langston joins Maddie Ward, who has 54.

Yorkshire 370-4, 46.3 overs

Ami Campbell caught Izzy James bowled Zeena Bilal, 36.

Hoisted out to long-on.

Rebecca Duckworth in alongside Maddie Ward, who has 52.

Ward 50

Maddie Ward reaches her fifty off 63 balls with 6x4s. Excellent.

Yorkshire 366-3 after 46 overs.

Ami Campbell may well follow. She has 35.

Yorkshire 352-3, 44 overs

Yorkshire are motoring towards 400 plus.

Maddie Ward has 47 to her name and Ami Campbell 25.

Worcestershire are 167-7 in the 45th over at Middlesex. A reminder, Yorkshire could do with Middlesex winning that.

But, to be fair, they are doing the bulk of the work themselves.

A bonus point win and we will qualify for the semi-finals next weekend.

Yorkshire 315-3, 39.3 overs

Lauren Winfield-Hill caught Coco Streets bowled Megan Belt, 194.

Caught on the sweep at deep square-leg.

That’s the highest List A score by a Yorkshire’s women’s or men’s batter, beating the 191 Darren Lehmann scored against Nottinghamshire at Scarborough in 2001.

It doesn’t get any easier for Kent as Ami Campbell comes to the crease alongside Maddie Ward, whose well-made 35 has gone somewhat unnoticed.

Winfield-Hill top of the charts

Lauren Winfield-Hill has 183 not out from 302-2 after 38 overs.

She has the highest ever List A score by a Yorkshire women’s player.

She is only nine away from the highest List A score by a Yorkshire player, women’s or men’s.

Yorkshire 287-2, 36 overs

Lauren Winfield-Hill 175 and Maddie Ward 27.

Yorkshire have, according to the Kent streaming commentary team, asked if they can declare their innings and have been told no.

There is some rain around this afternoon, and Yorkshire are chasing a victory for their semi-final qualification hopes.

Winfield-Hill 150

Lauren Winfield-Hill has just reached a stunning 150 off 104 balls with 26 fours included. Fabulous knock.

She has helped Yorkshire to 247-2 in the 33rd over.

Yorkshire 218-2, 27 overs

Should Yorkshire post more than the 381-6 total they amassed against Derbyshire earlier in the season, it would the highest total by any side in the professional era of women’s cricket, which started in 2020.

Lauren career best

Lauren Winfield-Hill has 134 – her best score in any format.

She has now posted the fourth highest individual score for Yorkshire’s women in List A cricket.

The highest was 177 for Salliann Briggs against Cheshire women in 2006.

Yorkshire 214-2 in the 26th over.

Yorkshire 205-2, 24.3 overs

Erin Thomas caught and bowled Amy Gordon, 54.

An excellent innings is ended by a sharp caught and bowled effort.

Thomas gets plenty on a pull, but she hits it straight back to Gordon.

Maddie Ward is in now alongside Lauren Winfield-Hill, who has 128.

Thomas 50

Erin Thomas

Erin Thomas has just reached her fifty, off 44 balls.

That’s her first of the season, and it’s been an eye-catching effort.

Yorkshire 183-1 after 23, and Winfield-Hill and Thomas have shared 142 for the second wicket.

HUNDRED!!! Winfield-Hill

Lauren Winfield-Hill has just reached her century off 71 balls with 17x4s.

Fabulous innings as Yorkshire move to 175-1 after 22 overs. She has 105 to be precise.

Lauren is climbing the list of Yorkshire women’s highest individual List A scores.

Thomas settles nicely

Yorkshire 140-1 after 19 overs.

Erin Thomas has 32 of them and has just pulled back-to-back boundaries off Amy Gordon’s spin. She looks in good order.

Lauren Winfield-Hill has 88.

Yorkshire 118-1, 17 overs

Lauren Winfield-Hill has dominated with 82 and has Erin Thomas on 18 for company.

These two have shared 77 and counting.

Everything going smoothly for Yorkshire in the race for the semi-finals.

Winfield-Hill 50

Lauren Winfield-Hill

Lauren Winfield-Hill reaches her fifty off 39 balls. Excellent stuff from the skipper.

Yorkshire 77-1 in the 12th over now, and Winfield-Hill has 54 of them.

Yorkshire 65-1, 11th over

Lauren Winfield-Hill has 45 of them.

And there’s good news from elsewhere.

Worcestershire are 38-2 after 10 overs against Middlesex.

Yorkshire 50-1, 9th over

Lauren Winfield-Hill 33, Erin Thomas 2.

Yorkshire can be satisfied with this start.

Yorkshire 41-1, 7.4 overs

Olivia Thomas caught Amy Gordon bowled Alice Grant, 7.

Thomas drives and can only find gully.

One Thomas replaces another at the crease. Erin in now alongside Lauren Winfield-Hill, who has 27.

Lauren into the 20s

Back-to-back boundaries down the ground for Lauren Winfield-Hill, off Sydney Gorham. The first was aerial.

She has 27 of 37-0 after seven overs.

Yorkshire starting to assert themselves now.

Yorkshire 18-0, 4 overs

Lauren Winfield-Hill has 10 and Olivia Thomas 2.

Settled start for the White Rose.

Early boundary

Lauren Winfield-Hill has just driven Sydney Gorham down the ground for only boundary so far. Lovely shot.

She has 8 of 12-0 after three overs.

It’s a picture perfect start to the day at Canterbury, but there is a threat of rain later.

Up and running...

Lauren Winfield-Hill is on strike against the seam of Sydney Gorham.

Completely new opening partnership for Yorkshire from Monday’s defeat to Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.

Winfield-Hill is opening alongside Olivia Thomas.

Leaving Wantage Road on Monday, Thomas was dealing with a foot injury, and Rich Pyrah indicated it wasn’t particularly great. So it’s good to see her retain her place in the team today.

Yorkshire 1-0 after one over.

Kent win toss and bowl

Yorkshire: Lauren Winfield-Hill c, Erin Thomas, Rebecca Duckworth, Maddie Ward w, Ami Campbell, Olivia Thomas, Beth Langston, Ria Fackrell, Jess Woolston, Claudie Cooper, Hannah Rainey.

Good morning...

Yorkshire are in action against Kent at the Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence, Canterbury today.

Just a few days after the county’s men sealed top spot and a home semi-final in their Metro Bank One-Day Cup by beating Kent on this ground on Tuesday, the women are aiming to do similar.

Ok, they can’t seal top spot in the group and a home semi-final, but they can progress to the same stage of their competition.

Today marks the final group game of the competition, and for those who don’t qualify the final game of the summer.

While qualification is by no means certain, Yorkshire are in a pretty strong position.

They sit fourth in the table – the top four qualify – with a superior net run-rate to that of their nearest challengers.

Yorkshire have 20 points and can’t progress any higher in the group table. Group leaders Middlesex are already qualified and are almost certain to finish top. Glamorgan and Northamptonshire are second and third. They actually play each other today with a home semi-final on the line.

In fifth, Worcestershire are level on points with Yorkshire. But, as aforementioned, their NRR isn’t as strong. In sixth, Gloucestershire are also in the race on 18 points.

There are five points available today, four for a win and an extra bonus point for having a run-rate of 1.25 times better than that of your opponents.

Worcestershire travel to face Middlesex at Merchant Taylors’ School, Northwood. Middlesex have won all eight games in the group.

Gloucestershire travel to Grace Road to tackle a Leicestershire side out of contention.

Yorkshire’s opponents Kent are also out of contention. They’ve lost seven and won one this season.

It may well be that Yorkshire qualify if they win with four points today. They could even qualify with a defeat. But they have to assume right now that a bonus point is required.

Yorkshire have won four and lost four this season. Each of their wins has been achieved with a bonus point.

To give you an idea of the kind of margins required for a bonus point, they’ve been by nine wickets chasing 78, by 315 runs, by six wickets chasing 206 inside 34 overs and by 150 runs.

We get going at 10.30am today, and there is a bit of rain forecast around the country a bit later. Fingers crossed, it doesn’t come into play.

The preview for this game, with coach Rich Pyrah, is linked above. Club captain Lauren Winfield-Hill is back in action for the county today following the conclusion of the Hundred for her and the Oval Invincibles.
