Yorkshire’s Dawid Malan said:
“Everything they told me about Headingley being green and seaming around hasn’t happened, thankfully. The wicket played slow, and it was nice to cash in.
“It’s the first time they’ve seen the sun up here. It’s a totally different game here when it’s not cloudy.
“There’s hardly been any movement. Hopefully it breaks up a bit tomorrow and Dom (Bess) can show what a quality spinner he is and put us in a position to win the game.
“It’s not turning by any imagination, but for him to come here and have to work batsmen out and find a way to win a game, it’s a fantastic situation for him to be in.”
6.25pm – Close Sussex respond confidently with 38-0 from 23 overs in their second innings. They trail by 207, Orr 23 and Haines 12.
6.06pm Sussex have shown plenty of fight here. 25-0 in the 18th over of 23 tonight. Orr 14 and Haines 8. Patterson and Bess in operation. They trail by 220.
5.32pm Sussex 12-0 in the eighth over of their second innings 15 to come tonight after this. Orr 6 and Haines 5.
4.53pm WICKET Coad bowled by Atkins for 1. 558 all out, 245 lead and 23 overs to bowl tonight. Atkins 5-98 a career best.

4.26pm WICKET Duke trapped lbw by Atkins for 54. 535-7, a lead of 223 in the early stages of the evening.
Tea Report Dawid Malan fell for a majestic 199 as Yorkshire took their first-innings lead against Sussex beyond 200 during the third afternoon at Emerald Headingley.
The White Rose are on course for a victory which would cut the gap between themselves and Group Three leaders Lancashire to just four points with two games remaining after they lost at Glamorgan this morning.
Yorkshire, replying to 313, advanced from 392-4 from 102 overs to at lunch to 534-6 from 138 overs at tea. The lead is 221 with 32 overs remaining today.

Good morning from Emerald Headingley, where the sun is shining once more
It promises to be a glorious day weather wise, and fingers crossed that is mirrored on the field as well.
Yorkshire could take a giant stride towards victory today. Resuming on 272-2, they are only 41 runs behind Sussex with Dawid Malan unbeaten on 103 and Gary Ballance 74. The pair have already shared 177 unbroken.
The plan would seemingly be to get a score in the region of 550, a lead of approximately 250, by tea-time or just after and then bowl Sussex out for a fourth win in eight games.
Given Lancashire are on course for defeat at Glamorgan, Yorkshire could only be a handful of points off top spot in Group Three ahead of the final two games, including the Red Rose at Scarborough next month.
The players are just beginning their warm-ups.
The stream will be available once more from just before 11am.
The Diamonds are also in Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy action against Sunrisers at Fenner’s (10.30am). That game is behind closed doors. We will keep you updated on that too.
Enjoy the day.
