Yorkshire all-rounder David Willey said:

“I think we’re probably just favourites at the minute.
“We scrapped well with the bat to get something to bowl at, and there’s still plenty in the pitch. If we can create six chances tomorrow, we’re in with a really good chance.
“It’s hard work with the bat, there’s no denying that. There’s one with your name on.
“Northants will always have a fond place in my heart. I grew up there as a kid, made my debut and played a lot of cricket for them.
“But I don’t actually know many of their lads who are playing now. David Ripley was Academy coach when I first started there.
“I know Rips well, and I always seem to do alright against them, which he hates!”

6.15pm – Close Play indeed abandoned for the day.

6pm Bad light stops play. 94-4 from 27.1 overs, 17.5 remaining. Northants need 126 more. Be surprised if we get back on.

5.32pm Northants have moved to 90-4 in the 21st. Procter 17 and Zaib 0. 130 more for them to win.

5.13pm WICKET David Willey, you beauty. He’s run Vasconcelos out for 41 with a direct hit run out from mid-wicket at the non-striker’s end. 74-4.

5.04pm Northants 71-3 in the 16th over. Vasconcelos 39 and Procter 8. Still the best part of 30 overs remain in the day, but the lights are on. If we get them all, I’d be amazed.

4.44pm Ah, Vasconcelos is dropped at slip by Kohler-Cadmore off Willey on 25. 47-3. Next ball goes for four.

4.43pm WICKET Keogh caught at first slip by Kohler-Cadmore off Willey. 38-3.

4.11pm WICKET Thompson traps Thurston lbw, 0. 17-2.

4.05pm WICKET Curran trapped lbw by Thompson, 9. 9-1 after two overs. Great start – 220 target.

Tea Report David Willey top-scored with an unbeaten 41 from number 10 to help Yorkshire set his former county Northamptonshire 220 to win at tea on day three.

Yorkshire, trailing by 28 on first-innings, advanced from 145-7 at lunch to 247 all out.

The White Rose were bowled out to signal an early tea, with 45 overs still remaining in the day as they search a third win from four LV= Insurance County Championship fixtures.

Northants’ South African overseas Wayne Parnell finished with five wickets in the innings, totalling match figures of 10-143.

He had Harry Brook (39) caught at second slip three balls into the afternoon before Willey shared 65 for the ninth wicket with Jordan Thompson and 33 for the 10th with Duanne Olivier.

Thompson contributed a crucial 37 before falling to Simon Kerrigan, with Parnell bowling Duanne Olivier to wrap up the innings in the 79th over.

Sandwiched in between the ninth and 10th wickets, Willey smashed three leg-side sixes off one Gareth Berg over.

3.34pm WICKET Parnell bowls OIivier, leaving Yorkshire defending a target of 220. Parnell finishes with 10 wickets in the match – five in each innings. Willey 41 not out. 45 overs remaining in the day. Tea. Yorkshire, at 247 all out, accrued 161 runs for the last four wickets.

3.28pm SIX more. Pulled by Willey again. 242-9, 214 lead. Willey 40. Three sixes in the 77th over.

3.27pm And again, this time pulled and squarer. Six more. 208 lead.

3.26pm SIX Willey picks Berg up off his legs and deposits him over mid-wicket into the North East corner. 202 lead and 230-9. Willey 28.

1.50pm Up and running after lunch, with Sanderson completing the unfinished 53rd over. 145-7, a Yorkshire lead of 117. Thompson at the crease now.

And he’s just picked up his first boundary as I type, off his second ball, to fine-leg. 149-7. 121 lead.

1.18pm An encouraging sign for Yorkshire…Ben Coad is bowling to Gary Ballance in the nets at lunch. Matthew Waite was also bowling before play, while Matthew Fisher captained the second team in the week.

Lunch Report Yorkshire lead Northamptonshire by 117 runs with three second-innings remaining at lunch on day three at Emerald Headingley.

A third LV= Insurance County Championship win in four games remains achievable after an action-packed morning session.

Yorkshire, who conceded a 28 lead on first innings, advanced from 43-3 from 20 overs overnight to 145-7 from 52.4 overs.

They lost Gary Ballance (16), nightwatchman Steve Patterson (4) and Jonny Tattersall (16) to leave them in trouble at 86-6 in the 36th over – shortly after midday.

But Harry Brook and Dom Bess halted the Northants charge with a seventh-wicket partnership of 59.

Unfortunately, Bess fell lbw to Ben Sanderson for 32 four balls into the morning’s final over, giving the visitors the upper hand once more.

Yorkshire hit 15 boundaries and a six during the morning, played out under a mix of overcast and sunny skies.

Ballance was first to go when he edged South African left-arm seamer Wayne Parnell to first slip – 55-4 in the 24th over.

Patterson was then trapped lbw in overseas Parnell’s next over before Tattersall feathered behind against Tom Taylor, leaving Yorkshire six wickets down with a lead of only 58.

Brook later pulled Sanderson for six to bring up the half-century partnership and will begin the afternoon on 39. Jordan Thompson will be the man who joins him at the crease.

1.10pm – Lunch WICKET Ah, gutted. Bess lbw to Sanderson on the verge of lunch, breaking a 59-run stand. He’s gone for 32, and Yorkshire are 145-7, leading by 117. Brook 39 not out. That wicket came two balls before the scheduled break. Northants strike four times in the morning.

1.02pm Just under 10 minutes to go before lunch. Yorkshire have not advanced at all since the last post. 140-6, 112 lead.

12.54pm SIX Brook brings up the half-century partnership by pulling Sanderson for six. He and Bess have shared 54 to be precise. 140-6 and a 112-lead. Brook has 35.

12.48pm Yorkshire’s lead now sits at 106 thanks to an unbroken 48-run stand between Brook and Bess, who have 29 and 31 respectively. 134-6. Pendulum swinging?

12.28pm Lovely from Bess as he drives back-to-back boundaries off Taylor, the second with more of a flourish. He moves to 21 out of 119-6. The lead is 91.

12.23pm Left-arm spinner Kerrigan comes into the attack to bowl the 40th over of Yorkshire’s second innings, and his first of the match. White Rose 109-6, leading by 81. Brook 23 and Bess 12.

10.50am The sun is now shining at Headingley as we get set for the start of play.

10.24am Here’s a look around the venues ahead of day three, with the only result so far coming in our Group (Three).

Derbyshire 105 and 23-0 v Nottinghamshire 256 and 318, County Ground
Durham 287-4 v Warwickshire 87, Riverside
Worcestershire 37-0 v Essex 561-8d, New Road
Gloucestershire 176-6 v Leicestershire 421, Bristol
Somerset 178-4 v Middlesex 357, Taunton
Surrey 513-3 v Hampshire 92, Oval
Sussex v Lancashire 193-6, Hove
Glamorgan 197 and 19-0 beat Kent 138 and 74 by 10 wickets

Good morning from Emerald Headingley.

It is an overcast morning at HQ ahead of day three of this fast moving Championship fixture.

Yorkshire are on the back foot at 43-3 in the second innings, leading by 15.

The first two days have been mixed, with both sides enjoying periods of success but also encountering problems in challenging batting conditions.

If the White Rose can engineer a lead in the region of 200, then confidence will be high that a third win from four Group Three matches can be achieved.

Gary Ballance is unbeaten in the early stages of his innings with nightwatchman Steve Patterson for company.

At one wicket down last night, I was preparing to write the end of day report up suggesting Yorkshire had the edge. But two further wickets has definitely swung this game Northants way.

Fingers crossed, this morning proves more settled in terms of batting.

The live stream is available once more for this 104-over day. We get underway at 11am. Enjoy.
