Tea Report An unbeaten half-century from England batter Dan Lawrence has helped Essex take control of the ongoing LV= Insurance County Championship clash at Headingley.

Lawrence has reached tea on day two on 58 not out in Essex’s 206-7, replying to a first-innings 134.

Yorkshire struck four times during the second afternoon, including two wickets for Ben Coad, who struck for the 200th time in his first-class career when he trapped Feroze Khushi lbw with one that kept low as the visitors slipped to 85-5 after 35 overs.

The county struck three times inside the first eight overs of the afternoon as Essex fell from 80-3 to 105-6 in the 41st, a deficit of 29.

But Dutch seamer Shane Snater crashed six fours and a pulled six in 46 off 48 balls to change the complexion of the contest. He dominated a 75 stand with Lawrence.

Snater then pulled George Hill to mid-wicket, where sub fielder Ben Mike held on (180-7) before Lawrence ended the session by posting a 118-ball fifty.

3.31pm – Tea Essex have moved to 206-7 from 64 overs, a lead of 72. Lawrence 58 and Allison 13. Four wickets in the session for Yorkshire, but Snater’s 46 off 48 balls has put us under pressure.

3.06pm Lawrence reaches his fifty off 118 balls with 8×4s. Essex 186-7 in the 57th over, a lead of 52. Allison has one.

3pm WICKET! Snater caught at mid-wicket on the pull against Hill by sub fielder Mike for a brisk 46. Essex 180-7 in the 56th over. Mike is on the field for Patterson.

2.49pm Snater has now overtaken Lawrence to move to 43 out of 172-6 for Essex, who lead by 38.

1.30pm WICKET Khushi trapped lbw by one which seemed to keep low from Coad, 1. Essex are 85-5. Coad’s 200th first-class wicket.

1.22pm WICKET! Critchley trapped lbw by Thompson, who strikes in the first over of a session for the second time in the day. Essex 80-4 in the 34th.

Lunch Report Steve Patterson ousted Sir Alastair Cook for the seventh time in as many Championship games against him as Yorkshire fought hard with the ball during the second morning against Essex as they defend a first-innings target of 134.

Patterson trapped the former England captain lbw stuck on the crease for 23 as Essex reached lunch at 79-3 from 33 overs.

While the visitors, batting in bright Headingley sunshine, maintain the advantage in this LV= Insurance County Championship fixture, Yorkshire are far from out of it.

Jordan Thompson struck with his first ball at the start of the day’s second over when he removed Nick Browne’s off-stump, leaving the visitors at 1-1, before returning to the attack later on to trap Tom Westley (20) lbw – 44-2 after 17.

When Patterson trapped Cook in front, Essex were 50-3 in the 20th.

Dan Lawrence and Matt Critchley have since ensured no further damage and will begin the afternoon on 12 and 15 respectively.

12.42pm – Lunch Essex have reached the break, in reply to Yorkshire first-innings 134, at 79-3 from 33 overs. Lawrence 12 and Critchley 15.

11.51am WICKET! Cook trapped lbw by Patterson for 23. Essex are 50-3 in the 20th over.

Patterson has now removed Cook seven times in the last seven Championship games he has faced the former England captain.

11.29am Essex are 43-1 after 15 overs. At Blackpool, in the second-team Roses Championship fixture, where Yorkshire are batting and are 47-0, Jack Luxton has joined younger brother Will in Yorkshire’s team. Jack is a seamer.

10.59am Essex have moved to 28-1 in the eighth over. Westley 16 and Alastair Cook 10.

Cook has been living somewhat of a charmed life. He survived four lbw shouts off Coad early on, three fairly confident shouts and the other stifled. Just now he has edged Patterson’s first ball between keeper and slip for four, moving to 10. It seemed as if Tattersall and Kohler-Cadmore left it for each other, with the catch just evading the latter’s right hand after a late reaction.

10.33am WICKET! What a start. Browne loses his off-stump to Thompson’s first ball. It’s 1-1 after seven balls.

10.29am The Live Stream is available via the Match Centre tab at the top of this page.

Good morning from Headingley, where the sun is shining and all the covers are off the outfield. We’re all set for a 10.30am start for day two.

Yorkshire endured a tough start to proceedings against Essex yesterday, bowled out for 134 as Sam Cook and Shane Snater claimed three wickets apiece.

Unfortunately, just as Yorkshire were about to get the ball in hand in helpful conditions, the rain came at tea and prevented any further play.

This morning promises to be a crucial one for the hosts. If we can claim a few wickets, we will be back in the hunt for a second victory of the season.

The players are due to start their warm-ups in the next half hour or so.

We will have a live stream available shortly before we get going. Enjoy the day whether you are viewing on stream or visiting us in person.
