Surrey v Nottinghamshire
Scott Borthwick was nine runs short of his second century of Specsavers County Championship summer as Surrey reached 222 for 2 before bad light forced the players off.
Borthwick was joined in an unbroken third wicket partnership of 152 by Ollie Pope, who was unbeaten on 72.
Division Two
Gloucestershire v Northamptonshire
Northamptonshire’s prospects of playing in Division One next season were greatly enhanced after they reduced promotion rivals Gloucestershire to 80 for 6 before rain washed out play in Bristol. Ben Sanderson took 2 for 19 to advance his personal tally for the season to 60 wickets.
Durham v Glamorgan
A half-century from BJ Watling guided Durham to 140-4 at tea on against Glamorgan, who need to win to have a chance of sneaking into the top three.
Middlesex v Derbyshire
Sam Robson narrowly missed out on a century as Middlesex’s batsmen took control at Lord’s. The opener made 93 and that ended a 90-run partnership with Dawid Malan, who was unbeaten on 34 with the home side 159-3 when bad light stopped play.

Leicestershire v Lancashire
Richard Gleeson completed his fifth five-wicket haul of the season as Leicestershire were reduced to 147 for 8 by the Division Two champions at the Fischer County Ground.
Tom Loten
“I’ll take that.
“I was a bit nervy today coming into it.
“I’ve watched quite a lot of the lads growing up, Steve Patterson, Gary Ballance, Adam Lyth. To be in the team with them is a dream come true.
“I only found out just before 10 o’clock this morning. Galey came up to me and said I was playing, so I was excited and nervous from that moment.
“I just wanted to get out there and bat, and I’m glad to have got off to a decent start.
“I absolutely loved playing out there and making my debut.
“That’s sort of my game plan (leaving well and playing confidently through mid-wicket). Leave the ball and make them bowl straight, which is where I’m strong.
“Batting with Tom helped. He was class. He’s really good with the young lads at Yorkshire and helps us all out.
“He told me to watch the ball and bat as if I was batting for my club side and not for Yorkshire.
“That was a bit annoying, nicking off the ball before rain and tea. But that’s cricket I suppose.”
4.37pm Play has been abandoned for the day.
4.17pm It continues to rain at Edgbaston. The likelihood of any more play today is remote.
3.27pm England national selector Ed Smith on Jonny Bairstow’s omission from the Test tour to New Zealand. “This feels like an opportunity for Jonny to reset. He will come back strong from this.”
Here at Edgbaston, the rain has arrived unfortunately.
Tea Second-wicket pair Tom Kohler-Cadmore and Tom Loten have batted Yorkshire into a dominant position at 261-2 on day one against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
The duo batted through the afternoon session having come together midway through the morning at 77-1, although Loten fell to the last ball before tea from off-spinner Alex Thomson for 58 off 155 balls.
Kohler-Cadmore has been particularly dominant down the ground on the way to 165 not out from 175 balls, while debutant Loten left the ball well and played nicely through mid-wicket.
Kohler-Cadmore, 80 not out at lunch, reached his ninth first-class career hundred and his first as an opener off 113 balls and then his 150 off 165.
Loten, 20-years-old, then brought up his fifty off 142 balls with seven fours.
Unfortunately, though, he edged Thomson to Will Rhodes to end a 184-stand with Kohler-Cadmore inside 47 overs.
There are comparisons between last week’s opening day against Kent at Emerald Headingley when the visitors racked up 482-8 and today. Thankfully, this time, Yorkshire are coming out on the right side of things.
3.03pm Loten reaches a debut fifty off 142 balls with seven fours. Fine knock – left well, played nicety through mid-wicket. 240-1.
2.58pm Yorkshire are 234-1, with Kohler-Cadmore on 154. He’s reached his 150 off 165 balls. Loten has 46. A little more than four overs to tea.

Lunch Tom Kohler-Cadmore, elevated to open the batting in the Specsavers County Championship, has posted an unbeaten 80 to underpin a healthy Yorkshire start to day one against Warwickshire at Edgbaston.
Kohler-Cadmore, no stranger to opening the batting having done it regularly in white ball cricket, has helped the White Rose reach 128-1 from 30 overs at lunch.
He briefly opened for Yorkshire in Championship cricket at the end of 2017 and has previously done it for Worcestershire, although has been batting at four this season.
After Steve Patterson opted for a toss, won it and elected to bat on the pitch used for Saturday’s T20 Blast Finals Day, Kohler-Cadmore and Adam Lyth (26) shared 77 inside 18 overs for the first wicket.
He has since added 51 with debutant Tom Loten, who has replaced fellow youngster Matthew Revis in the White Rose team.
David Willey has also come in for Tim Bresnan.
Lyth and Kohler-Cadmore both hit morning sixes.
Lyth’s was pulled off Henry Brookes before edging Craig Miles to second slip.
Confident Kohler-Cadmore lofted off-spinner Jeetan Patel over long-off for six having reached a 49-ball half-century with eight fours.
Loten, Yorkshire’s 20-year-old Academy captain from York, has hit two boundaries through mid-wicket in an unbeaten 19.

Division One
Somerset v Essex
A title decider at Taunton where Somerset have to make up a 12-point deficit if they are to win the Championship for the first time and stop Essex from repeating their 2017 triumph. Somerset are boosted by the return of England spinner Jack Leach. Essex, who are going for an unprecedented Championship and Vitality Blast double, have named left-arm spinner Aron Nijjar in their 15-man squad.
Kent v Hampshire
Kent are two points behind their visitors in the battle for third place. Mitch Claydon could make his final appearance before moving to Sussex and off-spinner Ollie Rayner plays the last game of his loan spell from Middlesex. Kyle Abbott, fresh from his 17 wickets in last week’s win over Somerset, leads the Hampshire attack with the visitors likely to be unchanged.
Warwickshire v Yorkshire
Yorkshire are the other side who could finish third with a victory at Edgbaston. They have named a 13-man squad and coach Andrew Gale says he may make a couple of changes to the team thrashed by Kent last week. Warwickshire have no fresh injury worries.
Surrey v Nottinghamshire
Surrey have named an unchanged squad. Luke Fletcher is injured and Ravi Ashwin has returned early to India but Notts do have Liam Patterson-White available again after recovering from a hand injury.
Division Two
Gloucestershire v Northamptonshire
The hosts need nine points to seal promotion and have added batsman George Hankins to their squad after a double hundred for the 2nd XI. Northamptonshire need five points to secure their place in Division One and have named the same squad which beat Durham last week.
Durham v Glamorgan
Glamorgan need a positive result either way at Bristol and a win at Chester-le-Street against Durham if they are to squeeze into third place and promotion. Marchant de Lange has recovered from injury and is in their 13-man squad. Durham include 18-year-old batsman Sol Bell.
Middlesex v Derbyshire
Steve Finn returns to Middlesex’s 15-man squad after missing last week’s game against Lancashire. Derbyshire are expected to name the same team which beat Sussex last week and have no fresh injury worries.
Sussex v Worcestershire
Sussex have added England under-19 batsman Tom Clark to their 14-man squad. The visitors are likely to be without Moeen Ali, who will be rested.
Leicestershire v Lancashire
Liam Hurt replaces Graham Onions in champions Lancashire’s 13-man squad. The hosts have no fresh injury worries. ?
Good morning from Edgbaston, where the sun is shining and we’re all set for a 10.30am start for the final game of the 2019 summer.
While this fixture against Warwickshire represents a jostle for places in the Division One table, this has extra importance for Yorkshire given what has happened over the last fortnight. The last thing the players and coaches want to be doing is going into the winter on the back of three defeats.
Warwickshire head into this week on the back of dominating a home draw against leaders Essex and then winning at Notts last week despite having conceded the best part of 500 in their first innings.
Opener Dom Sibley is hot property at the moment. He is likely to win his maiden England Test call-up for the November series in New Zealand when the squad is announced today.
Yorkshire could hand a debut to Tom Loten this week.
They could finish as high as third in the Division One table.
Enjoy the day and the week.
