Alex Wade is a fast bowler to keep an eye on, believes Yorkshire coach Ottis Gibson.

The Academy fast bowler, 17-years-old, is currently with the England Under 19s squad for their ODI tri-series against Scotland and Ireland, which started in Loughborough today.

Wade hasn’t been selected in the opening game against the Irish, but Gibson is confident in his ability to shine when given the chance over the next week.

At the start of the month, Wade helped the Yorkshire Academy win the Under 18s County Cup 50-over title as they beat Middlesex in the final at Kibworth Cricket Club.

Wade moved from the Olicanian club to play his league cricket with Bradford and Bingley for this season.

He has taken 12 wickets in 13 appearances for Yorkshire’s second team this summer, including a best of 4-25 having taken the new ball in a T20 group win over Derbyshire in June. The county went on to reach the final of that competition.

Former West Indies fast bowler Gibson said: “Alex is a very good young prospect. 

“He’s got a nice action. He’s done a lot of good work with Azharullah (Yorkshire high performance coach), and he’s got some pace about him. It’s skiddy sort of pace. 

“There was a plan in place to get him involved in our 50-over competition, but he picked up a niggle. 

“He’s one that we have high hopes for here at Headingley. 

“His selection is really good for him, and we wish him all the best. He’s a very good cricketer.”

Following today’s clash with Ireland, England play three more games on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday down in the East Midlands.
