Former Yorkshire player, James Logan, was captaining Kent and on winning the toss he elected to have first use of wicket.
Previous games at this venue suggested spin bowling may be to the fore and Yorkshire introduced it through Harry Sullivan as early as the ninth over. However it was Jack Shutt who struck in the 12th over and he backed this up four overs later and Kent were 48-2.
Harry Sullivan struck in his seventh over to reduce them to 63-3 but there were no further breakthroughs before lunch – taken at 90-3.
Opener, Nightingale, and Ul-Hassan had extended their partnership to 54 when the former was well taken at short leg by Will Luxton – he made 36 from 111 deliveries. Harby joined Ul-Hassan and they added 79 in 94 balls before Luxton took another smart catch, this time at mid wicket to dismiss Harby for 37. Ul-Hassan had reached 50 from 78 balls with 8 fours and 2 maximums and at tea he was 99 not out with Kent 232-5.
He duly completed his century from 147 balls with 16 fours and 2 sixes. Harry Sullivan had Moore lbw for 15 and Logan bowled for 3. Ul-Hassan had made 116 when he was bowled by Harvey Round and Kent were 258-8, however they added a further 38 for the last two wickets – 296 all out.
Yorkshire had seven overs to bat but lost Noah Kelly as they closed on 9-1.
