After yesterdays temperatures, the start of play was delayed due to rain and when it got under way only four balls were possible before rain again caused a halt. An early lunch was taken and play commenced at 1.10pm with 16 overs lost.

Overnight 24-3 became 47-4 when Harry Duke was caught behind for 13. Tom Loten joined Gary Ballance and they remained together throughout an extended afternoon session. Ballance reached his 50 from 77 balls with 9 fours and at tea they had added 118 and at tea 165-4.

After tea Ballance posted his second century in a week from 144 balls with 15 fours. However, shortly after Loten was caught and bowled for 40 from 146 balls and Yorkshire were 220-5. This quickly became 264-8 as Ballance was caught at long on for 133.

The innings came to a close at 287 Derbyshire leading by 44 and in the five overs remaining they stretched this to 62.
