Match Summary
Yorkshire secured a thrilling victory over Essex late on day four, with seam bowler Dom Leech starring on the final day with a five-wicket haul to add to the success of all-rounder Matthew Waite who contributed 238 runs in the match.
Batting first, Waite was the mainstay of the White Rose innings, scoring 170 in a score of 348 all out. James Wharton, opening up compiled a tidy 88 on the opening day and Matthew Revis scored 39 in a handy eighth wicket partnership with Waite.
In reply, Essex declared on 219 for 7 with Matthew Fisher claiming three wickets, Leech two and one each for George Hill and Josh Sullivan.
Looking to set up a game, Yorkshire second innings moved along at pace with Waite again the top scorer with 68, as the White Rose were bowled out for 180, leaving Essex needing 309 to win.
With around 52 overs left to bowl, Leech led the Yorkshire attack claiming two early wickets, before returning late on to claim the last three. Jack Shutt added three wickets with his off-spin and Tom Loten two to see Yorkshire secure the win.
