Yorkshire Southern Group

Background

The YCCC Southern Group was formed in 1980 at the Rugby Club of London by Ernie Taylor, Burt Rhodes and Jocelyn Webber.

The Founder Patron was Sir Leonard Hutton.
Our current Patron is Richard Hutton.

  • Aims

    We have two principal aims:-
    • Promoting and supporting the Yorkshire County Cricket Club in the south, especially at match events.
    • Providing sponsorship to be used for the development of young Yorkshire Cricketers.

    Membership

    We currently have around 200 members, not only from the south but from all parts of the country. All are welcome to join in our support for YCCC. Membership is by annual donation and we are currently asking for a minimum of £15.

    Events in 2019

    We will be organising the following events during the forthcoming season:

    TUESDAY, 14 MAY – CANTERBURY

    We have booked places in the Harris Suite for the first day of the county championship match against Kent, at a day package price of £41.00 pp including ground admission and catering.

    TUESDAY, 21 MAY – ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

    The Yorkshire Southern Group’s AGM will be held on this day at a central London venue. .

    MONDAY, 10 JUNE – GUILDFORD

    This is a joint event with The Cricket Society for a day at the Surrey v Yorkshire county championship match. The day package price is £50.00 pp including ground admission.

    SUNDAY, 7 JULY – CHELMSFORD

    This is the first day of the county championship match against Essex. Southern Group members will be gathering at lunchtime in the nearby Queen’s Head pub, 30 Lower Anchor Street, Chelmsford CM2 OAS for a drink and a natter.

    SATURDAY, 13 JULY – HEADINGLEY

    We have booked a suite in the Carnegie Pavilion for day one of this county championship match against Somerset. The day package, excluding ground admission, will be approx. £35.00 pp.

    MONDAY, 19 AUGUST – SCARBOROUGH

    We have booked a table for lunch in the pavilion on day two of this county championship match against Nottinghamshire. The lunch price is £30.00.

    WEDNESDAY, 11 SEPTEMBER – TAUNTON

    A table for lunch has been booked at the Princess Royal pub, 25 Canon Street, Taunton TA1 1SW.

    SATURDAY, 19 OCTOBER – ANNUAL LUNCH

    This will be held at the Civil Service Club in central London. Our guest speaker is Martyn Moxon, Director of Cricket at Headingley.

    These events are open to Southern Group members and anyone interested in supporting Yorkshire cricket. Please contact us via our email ycccsg@btinternet.com

    Sponsorship

    Over the years we have regularly provided financial sponsorship to assist the development of the club’s younger players. This has included funds for inter-personal and media skills training, coaching mats and bats for scholarship players. The first recipient was Paul Jarvis in 1984. Over the years we have sponsored such players as:- Darren Gough, Members of Yorkshire’s Young Fast Bowling Squad, Tim Bresnan, Joe Sayers, Jonathan Bairstow.

    In 2016 we contributed towards Karl Carver & Will Rhodes going to India during the closed season and also Andrew Gale’s benefit. In 2017 we contributed towards Steve Patterson’s benefit.

    Newsletter

    We produce a quarterly newsletter, the “Southern Group Newsletter”, with details of our forthcoming events and articles about Yorkshire cricket both past and present.
