Ducky’s come over from the dark side
Top-order batter Rebecca Duckworth made the long and arduous journey across the Pennines ahead of 2023, joining the Northern Diamonds from arch-rivals Thunder following a successful trial. She loved it so much that she’s stayed and signed for Yorkshire!
Duckworth, 25, penned a two-year contract at Headingley ahead of 2025, her maiden professional contract. She followed that up with a season’s best of 51 in the May Vitality County Cup T20 win over Staffordshire at Weetwood.
Preston-born Duckworth previously played county cricket for Lancashire, debuting for them in 2017 having come through the Red Rose age-groups, before playing for Thunder during the first three years of regional cricket.
She then made the move across the Pennines to play for the Diamonds ahead of the 2023 season.
Duckworth has also played senior cricket for Cumbria and the Northern Representative XI, hitting 51 in a T20 clash with North East Warriors for the latter in May 2022.
The right-hander matched that score batting at three for the Diamonds in a thrilling Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy win over Southern Vipers at Headingley in September 2024.
Shortly before signing her maiden pro deal with Yorkshire, Duckworth graduated with a Sports Science degree at Liverpool John Moores and followed that with a Masters at Manchester Metropolitan University.
Her brother Ed is a football referee, who has taken charge of a number of Football League matches in the ongoing season.
She has spent the last two winters playing club cricket for Gold Coast Dolphins in Australia.
