Young Lion ready to roar for Yorkshire

Jay Singh has signed his maiden professional contract at Yorkshire ahead of 2026, the 18-year-old adding to the exciting fast-bowling ranks at Headingley.

Singh, from Sheffield, joins the senior squad on the back of two seasons’ experience in second-team cricket.

A product of Hallam Cricket Club, Singh has 15 wickets from 13 second XI appearances to his name, including a trio of three-fors.

Singh has opened the bowling at that level and was a member of the Academy side beaten in the final of the Under 18s County Cup final by Glamorgan at Headingley in late 2025.

A tall quick with good pace and skill, Singh has “all the ingredients to be a very good fast bowler”, according to White Rose second-team coach Tom Smith.

Singh’s first recorded county appearance came for Yorkshire’s Under 14s in 2021. Four years later, he represented an England Young Lions team in friendly matches against the England and India Under 19s teams.

The Young Lions side is almost a second team for the England Under 19s.

In all cricket in 2025, he topped the 50-wicket mark, an encouraging precursor to some exciting times ahead for a teenaged bowler who will be 19 come the start of next summer.
