Fabulous Faheem plays his cricket in the fast lane!
All-rounder Faheem Ashraf is coming to Headingley, bringing his 100 mph style of cricket to both the Vitality Blast and Rothesay County Championship.
The experienced Pakistan international, aged 32, has signed on as an overseas replacement for the injured Will Sutherland.
He will link up with compatriot Hasan Ali, another player who does not die wondering in terms of the way he attacks the game of cricket.
Their deals are identical with the White Rose county. They are both available for the entirety of the Blast as well as the two June Championship matches against Warwickshire at Scarborough and Leicestershire at the Uptonsteel County Ground, Grace Road.
Ashraf is closing in on 150 appearances for his country across all formats, the majority of which have come in T20Is – 85 of his 147 have come in that format, to be precise.
He is a slippery right-arm seamer and a left-handed lower middle order batter.
With the ball, he has a T20 best of 6-19 and a first-class best of 6-65. With the bat, he has a T20 best of 55 and a first-class best of 147.
As aforementioned, Ashraf will play the majority of his cricket in a Yorkshire shirt in the Blast.
He has experience all around the world in that format, including playing for Northamptonshire back in 2019. He also played Championship cricket for Sussex three years later.
He claimed 11 wickets in as many Blast matches for the Steelbacks, while his late-season spell with Sussex only saw him play three Championship matches.
In 2017, Ashraf took Pakistan’s first ever T20 international hat-trick, against Sri Lanka in Abu Dhabi.
He was a Pakistan Super League winner with Islamabad United in 2024 and played for his country in the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
He is a batter who loves to attack, especially against the white ball.
Ashraf made his international debut for Pakistan in ODI cricket, at the 2017 Champions Trophy in England and Wales. His country won that tournament, beating India in the final at the Kia Oval, though he didn’t play in that showpiece occasion.
Fingers crossed, he gets to play in the Blast showpiece at Edgbaston in July.
